Pet Peeves?

Hi ladies,

Let me preface by saying I adore my FI.

Howeverrrrrrrrrrrr, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people chew/eat with their mouths open or making a lot of noise while eating. I'm a little on the cranky side (I live in the south so I'm struggling to get into the Christmas spirit-- too hot, Aunt Flow is coming in 2 days, work has been nuts... yadda yadda yadda). FI's loud chewing always gets to me but tonight I told him I was going to put his dinner outside tomorrow. When he asked why I told him because if he wanted to eat like an animal I'd give him a genuine experience and let him eat outside like an animal. Harsh? Probably.

I've already apologized and we've laughed off my craziness. But, yeesh!

Anyone have any pet peeves they want to share? ;)

  • Biggest pet peeve is fi's slowness. I'll ask him to help me get something done and he takes so long and ask so many questions I'm better off doing it myself. Don't get me wrong he's a sweetie very helpful and has good intentions but when I want something done I want it done yesterday. I've learned to be very patient but that time off the month I have a short fuse and anything sets me off.

  • The sound of eating drives me insane too! FI gets into this habit of eating loud whenever he's tired/had a long day at work, don't know why but manners just fly out the window... so if we're eating after work I have to turn music on so I don't hear it hahaha
  • hahahaha! That's hilarious! My FI does that same thing. What is it?! He'll smack whatever he's eating and then to top it all off, he'll slurp whatever he's drinking while he still has food in his mouth. I can't stand drinking something while having food in my mouth so when he does this it really grosses me out!

Also, FI has a lot of thick, black hair. He has to trim his beard every other day and cut everything about once a week or everyother week. When he cuts/trims, he'll just leave the hair everywhere. It will be all over the bathroom sink, the towels, the floor. And, God forbid if he showered right after, because there will be tiny hairs all over the tub and going down the outside. It drives me INSANE.

And when he gets out of the shower, he stands on the rug for all of 5 seconds before moving on and dripping water everywhere. Just yesterday, there was giant puddles in the bathroom floor and the carpet was wet leaving a trail from the bathroom through the hallway and halfway through the bedroom.

I swear if I didn't love him so much... lol

  • We had an argument one day over the whole hair thing, because I had just cleaned the bathroom when he decided to shave.... now he cleans up behind himself lol
  • My FI is EXTREMELY picky with food, to the point he will not trying something new because he already assumes in his head he won't like it. I guess a pet peeve is not being open about trying new things- I'm not talking about sushi or anything, I'm talking about sweet potato fries and a new salad dressing!!

  • Wow, the chewing loudly/with your mouth open totally bothers me too. my fiance doesn't do it (thank god) but there is one guy at work who does it all the time. i have a candy bowl at my desk and he will stand there loudly chewing and its so gross. i had to stop eating lunch with him because i couldn't stand his disgusting eating habits. i have to work closely with him so oftentimes he'll be in my cube and if there is something out in the break area for free (cake, bagels, etc), he will always take it and then bring it to my cube and eat it infront of me. drives me absolutely crazy.

another pet peeve of mine is slow walkers/drivers. i guess i walk fast (and drive fast, says my 4 speeding tickets), but i like to get where i'm going. i don't understand people who walk or drive slow, do they ever get anywhere? don't you want to get where you are going and not be driving anymore? i understand walking for leisure is another thing, but come on, you should not be doing that in a crowded mall or hallway.

anyway, i don't think there's anything my fiance does that super bothers me. he's a perfectionist so sometimes i have to be very patient when we are doing some sort of project or other. we ended up painting our livingroom ceiling 3 times because he didn't like it after the first two. it took about 4 hours each time. but this is really not that bad, it just means every project or thing we do turns out that much better than it would have if i had done it myself.

    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • Morena, you pretty much just described my FI, lol. Honestly it would take an entire page to list all of my pet peeves. There are so many things that drive me nuts.

I was seriously about to say the same thing.

Something else that bothers me is how he half-a$$es so much stuff.  Like when he cleans the kitchen, he'll leave food in the sink or crumbs on the counter.  My mother told me once that men just don't notice things like that.  FI cleaned the kitchen yesterday and it was super clean, so I went up to him and said, "I just want to say thanks for cleaning the kitchen, and it looks better than you've ever done before."  He says "It always looks that good when I do it."  I had to bite my tongue and walk out of the room so I didn't ruin my compliment by correcting him.

  • Mine is my his quite-ness. He could literally go all day without talking if I let him. Sometimes I really don't even enjoy going out to eat with him cause he is content with sitting, eating, and nothing else. I just dont understand it! I love to talk talk talk!

  • LOL!!  MrsBassPlaya - Mine is the same way!!  He half-a**es everything!  I'm like "Can't you see that whole section you missed when you vacuumed?," etc.  I feel like I can never say that something is totally finished after he does it, because he won't follow through and complete it.  He'll vacuum, but won't move anything to vacuum around or under.  Or he'll do the dishes after dinner, but doesn't wipe down the counters.  Or he'll just put the dishes in the dishwasher and not wash the hand-wash only items.  Grr!!  It's a good thing I love him so much!  But on a positive note, he is getting better.  I have to describe in detail what I consider to be "clean", then he follows instructions pretty well.  :D

<div>kellycatalo, that must be a Chi-town thing because I feel the SAME WAY! And I live in the burbs, so it's extra annoying because the slow drivers are EVERYWHERE. UGH! lol</div>
  • My FI doesn't eat loud but the co worker I share my office with does and it drives me NUTS!! and so does people scraping their fork against their front teeth, its like nails on a chalkboard & it hurts just to listen to it.

I think my FI could list more pet peeves concerning me than vice versa. I hate how happy he is in the morning though!
  • I have way too many pet peeves in general to list here. The only FI related one is his selective vision in the kitchen. I do all the cooking so he is supposed to do all the dishes. However, he can only see the dishes that are right by or in the sink. The spatula to the right of the stove or the glasses in the living room just don't exist in his world!

  • PPs mentioned slow drivers.. I always tell people that I must have a sign above my truck that says "Yes! PLEASE go 10 mph UNDER the speed limit! It will make my day if you make me late to everything today! THANKS!"  I have this knack for getting behind every single old bitty in a Buick going 5-10 under the limit. I have gone miles behind a slow person, only to turn and get away from them... and realize I am behind yet another <10 car. I live on a road that has NO mph marking, which automatically makes it 55 (check your drivers ed books, people!). No one seems to get that. Ever.

My FI is very laid back. Sometimes too laid back. I will ask him to do something, and he will get this whiney face and go "Uggghh I just wanted to kinda chill today. My feeeeet hurrttt tooo." So I end up doing it, after working 5 straight 11- hour days. We have lived in the same apt for over a year and still do not have curtains in our kitchen or bedroom because of this. He tends to walk thru the house in close to nothing and the whole town can see thru our apt.
