There is abbreviating, and then there are nicknames. If you know someone's first name, that isn't their screen name, I assume you know them a little better than I do. That assumption may be totally off base.
    Posted by jasmineh7777
I don't know that it has to do with some regs knowing other regs better. I mean, if you post here long enough, you find out what people's first names are. Or, you know, sometimes if you look at their bios because they're regs and you're interested in their weddings. I know what Sucrets, Amoro, Beatles, Kiki, Nebb, etc are called IRL, but I don't use their first names here. Actually, if someone did use their first names, I would think they were trying to be snarky with that person. Now, me and GG, we have SNs that are derived from our first names, so I think that's different.

My name is Michelle, but my best friend has called me Celle for my entire life.  Celle was taken so I added the S.  I didn't think I'd be active enough on the forums for it to matter, but now I want to change it.  Argh.

I'm bandwagoning here, but I don't really like red velvet cake either. But I think some of that is that the cream cheese icing is cloyingly sweet.

I think my mom must make the traditional old school red velvet cake with the buttermilk and vinegar and even beet juice, because I've seen her do that. My sister must have taken the recipe, because their RV cake is this thick, moist, play-dough like shiit that I cannot stomach. If the new RV cake is just chocolate cake with red food coloring, I may be up for trying that. The other shiit? In the trash.

Blueberry pie, on the other hand, is pure heaven. You are broken if you believe otherwise.

To be fair, J&K... there are a lot of people named Jess. ;-) In high school there was one other girl in my school (the entire 4 years I was there) named Meredith. It was weird having to adjust to hearing someone call the name and NOT be talking to me. I can't imagine what people named Jen or Susan (like my mom) go through all. the. time. But usually I just assume people are talking to me when they use my name.

People on my club board prefer to use first names. They like it when you put your name in your sig. I feel weird paging people by their user name over there. I feel like I have to go look at their bio to find their real name and then use it.

Edit: Also, I don't like red velvet cake OR chocolate cake. *gasp*

Of course there are.  I had 4 in my elementary school class.  But I just get confused because JessandTrav has Jess in her SN, and I don't.  So then people say "Jess" and I have to double check who they're talking to if it's not obvious based on the content of the post.

I think this is mostly true too, though if someone uses a cutesy flourish to an abbreviation, I feel like they are probably friends or friendly enough with each other to feel they can. Like Nuggs, Mandypants, Beats, Arbs, Teej, or the like.
