High school choir at wedding?

I have been thinking a lot lately about having one of the choirs from my old high school sing the processional song: I would like to do "You Raise Me Up." I was in choir from 5th grade all the way up to my senior year of high school-all 4 years of high school with the same teacher. The choir director at my old school is an absolute miracle worker and I think that any choir at that school would do an amazing job. I also am fairly certain that ol' Mr. D would be bursting with pride that someone asked one of HIS choirs for the most important day of their life (meaning he would probably be totally on board) Any thoughts? Other song suggestions? Is this just a totally weird idea?

    Choir was my big thing in middle school and high school too.  It was for our girls also.

    Here were my first couple of thoughts when I read your post (and I don't want to be a Debbie Downer here)

    From the student POV - why on Earth would I tie up a Saturday to sing at someone's wedding that I don't even know?  It isn't a school function.

    From a parent POV - why on Earth do we have to tie up a Saturday for my kid to perform at someone's wedding when it isn't even a school sanctioned event?

    There could also be a liability issue to the school if their choir is performing under the direction of their employee at a private function.

    I sang in a couple of small specialized groups in high school and we did perform at some public events by invitation.  Maybe there is a small group in the choir who might be willing to perform for you?

    DItto KMMSSG. I'm a high school teacher and there are all types of logistical and liability issues with this.

    I agree with the others.  Great in theory, but might be harder to implement.  But it's worth asking your old choir director if it's possible, and maybe suggesting some of PPs' possible solutions.

    Also, if it's the whole choir, you might consider "paying" them with a sizable donation to the Choir Boosters (could help pay for new uniforms, travel to a choir competition, or whatever).
