Aw Dmill that's gotta be a bummer.  If you think about it though, you'd kinda "donating blood" for 9 months by helping your baby grow!
So quick question,  if you were recently terminated from an old job are they required to tell you that your benefits ended on that date and that you will no longer have insurance?  I feel like they would have to ...
    Posted by lbarr088
Typically they will notify you with some information on COBRA (where you can get insurance at an increased cost for up to ~60 days after termination) but I'm not for sure on the laws in each state so that could vary.

  • Yeah, see I was told through email 2 days later that my benefits were no longer in effect as of Monday... this was through the department manager because I was curious since my current benefits don't start until next month.  The old department manager said that HR will process my paperwork at some point and tell me about COBRA, etc.  I feel like this should have been handled, you know, before I left the friggin job.  Also, in MA I'm pretty sure you get fined if you aren't insured... It's not awful like under 100 bucks a month but still.

Half of this is my fault though, this is the first time I've switched or left a full time job so I wasn't sure about the necessary questions to ask.
the only thing I don't love about our french door fridge is that you can't get water out of the in-the-door thing if either fridge door is open (freezer door doesn't stop it) It'd save me SECONDS in the morning if I could fill my water bottle and grab my lunch at the same time.  SECONDS, people.
    Posted by pirategal03
I open it while H is getting his water just to irrtate him ;) We have an older LG and I hate it, it freezes everything you put on the same side as the ice dispenser. I think they have fixed that problem now though.

H has dinner meetings tonight and tomorrow, so I have to fend for myself. I may take the pup for a walk by myself just to run some energy out of him.

He's 28.6 lbs as of yesterday.

  • All you sickies need to feel better.  Good luck!

We've got the fridge with the freezer drawer on the bottom.  Every time we open it up, the dog comes up for you to "pay the toll" and you have to give her an ice cube.  It's pretty damn cute.

Speaking of my dog, I'm trying not to be too pissy this morning.  When we went on our vacation, BIL was supposed to be watching the dog and cats.  We found out last night that he was gone to Nebraska for 4 days and that he got the neighbor to come in twice a day to feed them.  He never told us.  If he had, we would've kenneled the dog and put a mail hold on.  Grrrrr.

In MA they do have to offer you COBRA if they meet the guidelines, which are generally more than 50 employees.  But don't worry about being penalized - you can go up to 62 days w/out coverage before there will be any tax penalty.

Yeah, she's the only trustworthy neighbor we really have.  And, she's the one who inadvertenly spilled the beans about it last night.  BIL thought it was no big deal.  H said, "All we're asking is that next time this happens, please call and let us know."  We didn't get all in his grille or anything, but I was pretty heated about it last night.  Now, my mind wanders all over the place of what the hell else might go on when we're not there.  I think that next vacation, we'll just kennel Peanut.

BK, that would annoy me too. If you wanted the neighbor to watch the dog, you would have asked her. He shouldn't have just assumed that was okay.

Thank christ I'm buddies with the guy doing photographs cause he showed me the pics and let me delete the ones I didn't like. I hate how fat I look and how thin my hair appears. Blah, nothing makes me feel better about myself than getting stupid pics taken. They're redoing the website for work and wanted shoots of us in a meeting so it was more realistic than posed.

I'll look into those.  Sound like Peanut would love it.  She goes crazy for just regular ice cubes, she'll be bonkers for those.  We keep saying to her, "What, you think ice is free?"

H feels so responsible for BIL since he convinced him to move out and H is the older brother and feels like he has to take care of his brother so the answer to the question about when he's moving out is more likely than not "The 12th of Never".  I'd be happy if he just showed some initiative and paid for some of the house bills.  He paid for dinner last night (sort of).  He dropped $60 on the table for our share, the neighbor paid her own part, and we had to kick in $12 after he walked away because he didn't leave enough for the whole bill and tip.

  • Good morning everyone.

The WR dreams are getting worse. They aren't nightmares (or even bad), but it's just getting incredibly annoying having to think about that crap when I go to bed. Every night this week. Why can't I have honeymoon dreams?

FI and I went and saw "Snow White and the Huntsman" last night. I was a little disappointed. It was good but there's only so much you can do plotwise.

Dmill---have you ever donated through Hoxworth? I donated all the time through ARC when I was in MI (and a few times through Michigan Blood) but the Red Cross seems pretty far from me in Cinci. We have a Hoxworth nearby but I'm nervous to go somewhere new lol. Any experience there?

<div>COBRA does tend to be expensive.  When I left my job, they originally quoted me $430/month for up to 18 months.  But after I moved I got an e-mail saying that the HMO plan I had been on in DC isn't available in NC, so I would have to to PPO instead, which was $780 a month.  Eff that.  H's insurance didn't start for 90 days after he started working, so I was without insurance for 3 months.  I realize that was incredibly stupid, though.</div><div>
</div><div>So now I'm on H's insurance, which still sucks ass.  We pay $478 a month for me (H's is free), and it has a $5,200 deductible.  Ugh.  Luckily, his practice is merging with another one in July, and it should be much better after that.  We're still waiting for the exact quotes though. </div>

Yeah, I wasn't particularly thrilled about that and if it had been anyone but Melanie, I'd have FLIPPED OUT.  Luckily, I like Melanie; if she wasn't still so juvenile about her drinking and pot smoking, I think we'd really get along well.  The whole story came out because she was talking about a killer party they had on the Monday while we were gone and how drunk and loud everyone was. And she mentioned having to come over and feed the animals since BIL was in Nebraska.  Both H and I had WTF faces.  We also did the "Did you know this? I didn't" exchange of glances.
  • Steph, glad you are getting your ears checked out! Never hurts to check. I have had a persistent sinus/tension allergy type headache and was glad I went to the Dr. just to make sure I was not busting out in any bacterial infections. I busted an eardrum some years ago because I kept thinking it was "just allergies". Hearing is fine, but MAN did that take some time to heal! Ouch!
  • Good morning, ladies.

  • @ Steph-I've had real issues with my ears this year and the doctor decided it was my allergies. My sinuses were draining and pooling in my Eustation tubes. Very painful.

Mine directed decongestant and Flonase, but since you cant take any of that I wonder what they will dofor you. Let us know what they say!

<div>It's ridiculous.  I went to the doctor last October, and that one appointment + bloodwork ended up costing me $700 out of pocket (in addition to the monthly premium) because my deductible is so high and hadn't been met yet.  I can't wait until H's new benefits start. </div>
