Registry

There might already be a post on this, but what is/what will be your favorite registry items?

Are there ones that you thought you'd use and you don't?

My FI and I started our first one last night and go too overwhelmed and left with only about 20 things.

Help!

We registered for stuff for our upstairs bathroom, as well as the downstairs one which we are planning to finish in the next 3 months.  I've since decided that I like my bathroom stuff upstairs so I will be returning all those towels, rugs, shower curtain, etc.

Also, I really like serving dishes by this company called Wilton Armetale so I registered for basically all their pieces.  Realistically, I don't need all of them, nor do I have the space, so I will be going through them and decided which to keep.

I still have a full closet of shower/wedding gifts that I am just now working my way through...

For favorites, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Kate Spade vase I got.  It was a lot of money for a silly vase, but it's my favorite.  And DH knows how much I love it so he'll pick me up flowers so I can use it -- extra bonus.

For practical gifts though, I love my good sheets.  I've never had a set of nice sheets before and could never quite justify the expense.  And also, my trash can -- it's a double and we use one side for trash and one for recycling.  Man, I sound old...

After our first trip we only had 20 things or so on our registry.  We went back another time and added to it and did quite a bit online.  It's just too much to take in and do on your first trip.

I don't know that I have favorite items.  We got new pots and pans and we needed them BADLY!  http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=119172

And I LOVE these dessert dishes - and I've actually used them.  http://www.crateandbarrel.com/dining-and-entertaining/appetizer-and-dessert-plates/emma-dessert-plate/s596620

We did register for a couple of frivolous things (cappuccino machine) and even though we're not using them now I think we will when we move into a home with a bigger kitchen.

    Hope this helps!

I love our dishes. We needed a new set really bad and I use them all the time. I also love our new pots and pans. We needed those too. We didn't get them from anyone, but I bought them and got 20% off during a mini shopping spree I went on. Our toaster oven is another one of my favorite gifts. We use that thing for everything!

One thing we did register for and will never use is a rice cooker. We went a little overboard with that. I'll return it and get some other fun stuff!

Just so you know, you're a ways away from actually having to register for gifts. I would hold off for a couple more months if you can because there will be some things that get discontinued.

We registered last week because FI's family is throwing us a shower before one of them goes to florida for the winter.  The thing that I was most excited for was a steam mop! Not too exciting for most people but we have 2 dogs and I think it will be easier to use and keep the wood floor clean.

We have both lived on our own for awhile, he was previously married, so most of our stuff was upgrading or replacing old items.

I haven't registerd yet, but I've been keeping a list. Every time I'm cooking or walking around the mall or whatever and I say "gosh, I could really use...." I write it down.

I'm sure there is a better way to do this, but this method works for me.

Oh - and I have a question for everyone - do you have to register for china/fancy place settings? My FI already has a very large set of nice dishes. I don't think we need them, but I don't want to offend anyone by not registering for them.

We did not register for any dishes.  My parents consolidated 2 hours 2 years ago and in their movie, I acquired a 2 year old set of Pfaltzgraff dishes that I love.  And also, I have no need for china.  Heck, we didn't even register for any pots & pans or stemware because we already had those.

It seemed that the older generations liked to buy those more traditional gifts as they were the ones who bought us our nice serving dishes, flatware, and those kinds of traditional gifts.

But basically, register for what you want/need -- not what all those checklists tell you that you should register for.

Thanks Ladies-- These are great ideas.

Corinne2010-- We're registering a little early knowing we'll have to update. FMIL is having a shower in December for us we are crazy busy between now and then so we're trying to get a jump start. :) I'm a little worried about discontinues even with the shower in December.
