Re: For the brave people sticking around TK

  • Yea, I guess I was assuming this person told their parents. Or is this just hypothetical? Either way, in my head this person told their parents.
  • I thought one of the major TK party lines was "If you elope, don't expect gifts."  Why is it any different if it's your parents?  I'm with Fish, if I had eloped without telling my parents my mom would have been too hurt to even call me, let alone send a card or gift.

  • Apparently, the kids eloped right before the son was deployed. Like, RIGHT before.

Idk that she'd want you to do that lol...

But I know what you mean.  I'm very thankful for the time we've had the past couple days, and I told him I intend to "bother" him several times a week for awhile.  He smiled when I told him that.  Sounds like the rest of my aunts and uncles will be in town over the next couple days too except for my uncle in California.
  • Yeah, no. I don't think so. You make your bed, lie in it, and don't biiitch about it, or expect something from someone you just proverbially slapped in the face.

Also, I FOUND THE VEST. No tie, but this is definitely the vest.

[QUOTE]Mica, he's not a...custom outfit kind of dude. More of a...Hmmm...how can I put this delicately. Like...maybe it was part of a halloween costume being sold at your local K-Mart.

<div>I might have found wearing part of a halloween costume to a wedding hilarious and original when I was in high school.  Thankfully I know better know.</div>
  • Is there a thread that this is referring to with the elopement thing?

The thread is on the main page and is currently (semi) working.

Bay, if I can afford it, I give gifts or a card or something to people I care about, even if I'm not invited to the wedding. If my brother called me tonight and told me he eloped this afternoon, I'd be pissed at not being invited, but I'd get him something because he's my brother and I love him.

ETA: He would not stomp his feet and demand a gravy boat.
  • Fish that is FABULOUS.

Dear heavens, who thought that vest was a good idea?  Did you find it on ebay or etsy?

  • IKR? What's better, is that everyone else is dressed in a relatively classy manner. So hilarious.

I'm not sure why, but I feel like a brother is different than your child. And it sounds like she clued a number of people into what was going on, just not the mom, yeah man. I'm curious what their relationship was like or if it was strained in some way?

But yeah. I wouldn't expect anything from anyone if I eloped, my mamacita included.

  • I could not take a groom seriously if he was wearing that.
  • Guys. For a whopping 18 bones, that vest could be on your man. It's on Ebay. Hurry. Auction's over in 20 hours.

Jackie -- TK keeps on accusing me of double posting when I KNOW that I only clicked once.  This website is seriously jacked up.
  • Yea, if I were the mom I would still send something because I'm sure I'd love my son and want to show I was happy for him. But at the same time, knowing that the bride's friends were invited but no family, I would be pissed and severely hurt.

  • I'm just going to assume there are some strange family dynamics.

Fish, that vest reminds me of BIL's wedding outfit. His mom made him a baseball vest. BIL bought Cincinnati Reds ties for his two brothers (as their GM gift). The ties were not a reasonable or standard length, and they looked ridiculous.
  • Gee, Fish, how could I refuse?

  • I feel like I should just stay up tonight. I have to be up in five hours anyway. We're doing some last minute laundry, and I'm making snacks for the trip.
  • I mean...I'm all about putting some of your personality into your wedding. I get it. But I MEAN COME ON. Do a Reds garter or something.

However, I have more patience for sports themed weddings than taz tuxes. :)

Take at least a couple hours to sleep, Special.  You'll feel better for it.

I'm feeling like an 18th century consumptive right now.  Must go to bed.

Good night, ladies!  I'm thrilled that you all graced this evening thread despite TK's general hostility towards posting.
