I consider myself to be in pretty good shape and it was a nightmare for me. We hiked seven miles to the bottom, stayed at Phantom Ranch for the night and then hiked a different trail ten miles up the next day. I never thought I'd reach the top. I was convinced I would die on the trail on the mules would stomp all over my dead body. It felt like my muscles were shredding away from my bones. EVERY bit of my body hurt. Even my hair hurt. You know what though? I'd do it again. It's probably the best way to see the Canyon.

This is myself and two of my sisters just before we started the hike up. We were hurting, lol - and pretending to be frightened of the impending walk up the Canyon. I remember laying in bed the night before laughing at myself because my body hurt so bad I didn't think I could move, and yet I had ten miles to go.
ETA - If you ever do hike it, I'd recommend going when it's colder, like February or March or something like that. The summer months get too hot and people get sick with heat exhaustion.
