order a size up?

i got a dress online and it was too small so i returned it. it was about 3 or 4 inches too small. should i go one size up or two sizes to be extra safe? either way i'm having it altered because the bust was huge lol. please help! i have trouble deciding.

Re: order a size up?

  • I would go by your measurements and see what category you fit into based on that. My dress size is 3 sizes larger then my street clothes because of my hips - bridal runs small (although the whole dress needs to be taken in now). It also depends on the dress. Measurements are your best bet. Good Luck!

  • the dress two sizes up is almost perfect except for the waist. it's 2 inches small according to the chart. a seamstress can bring that a little out if needed, correct? it's not a complicated design or anything.
  • if you have the dress look at the seams some wedding dresses have larger seams for letting them out to customise a fit - one wedding planing book said to order small since letting out was easier due to the seams allowances in wedding dresses I thought that was crazy but it you have some wiggle room it can help...

  • ok i think i will order two sizes up and see what happens lol. i have 8 months so i will be good.
  • You should order the dress at your largest measurement.  For example:

    If YOU are

    B 44
    W 36
    H 52

You should order the dress size that will accomodate the Hip measurement, even if that means the B & W will be too big.  it is much easier to take a dress in than let it out.  Most dresses have 2 inches in the seam to be let out, but some brands only give you 1/2 inch on each side.

<div>the only one that doesn't add up is the waist. my waist is two more inches bigger then the dress apparently. the other two are pretty close.</div>

<div> It depends on the dress. The store I went to had me order the next size b/c my hips were over by an inch. They said the companies don't leave much room for dresses to be left out.</div>

  • You should order your dress based upon your largest measurement.  I'm assuming you're not ordering from a chinese knockoff website, right?

    <div>no david's bridal lol.</div>
  • You should always order based on your largest measurement. You can easily take in the hips & bust.  If your waist is the largest measurement, order the dress to fit your waist and take in the other two.

    example

    if a size 18 is

    Bust 45
    Waist 38
    Hips 45

    and a 20 is

    Bust 47
    Waist 40
    Hips 48

    And YOU are a

    Bust 45
    Waist 40
    Hips 45

You should order the size 20, even though the hips & bust might fit into the 18, You have to fit your largest measurement.

  • My dress was 2 sizes up. Is there any measurements that you can take that will help in your decision?
