Can someone explain the "one-starring" fuss?

I've seen several NPS about it and don't get it.  Posters get mad if someone gives their post one star?  Why does it matter to them?

    a one star post will haunt you to your grave.  do you want "here lies tawillers; she is rated one star" on your tombstone?  no, i didn't think so.

    I don't get what the fuss is about it either. WTF does it really matter? I didn't even know you could star posts on the nest/bump.

    Um, yeah. I'm a regular on some Nest boards and I don't get it either. I never notice what the star is on a post. I think it's the Sally Field "you like me, you really like me" syndrome.
