HAIR STYLIST QUESTION - I need help!

HI LADIES....

ok, so i booked a hair stylist back in january for my wedding that is next weekend. when i booked her she told me it was $135 for me and $85 for bridemaids.  when discussing my hairstyle i said that i wanted my hair blown out before having it styled because i have very curly hair and prefer it to be worked with straightened. she told me that it would cost an extra $30 for me to have it blown out. i figured that extra charge was because i had such long hair (its down to my bottom).

so as we are getting closer (9 days away) i wrote her to discuss a scheduling concern of one of my bridesmaids. this bridesmaid wants her hair blown out and then loosely curled. while discussing timing the hair stylist mentioned that if the bridesmaid wanted her hair blown out that would cost an extra $40.

this is where she lost me.  if she's going to charge an extra $40 for blow out (it was originally $30 which i'll argue -- i have the email as proof of this quote) then what does the $85 cover ... curling her shoulder length hair??

is it me or does that seem a little crazy? be honest.

I also have really curly hair.  Everytime I get my hair done for a wedding I go to my reg hair dresser two days before and have her straighten it.  I don't know if you could do that but they only charge 25 for a blowout and the hairstyle always stays better on hair that is dirtier.  HTH.

i guess it's not so much about the extra charge ... i mean it is ... but my real concern is ... if the blow out is $40 extra ... what exactly is the $85 for? that seems like an awful lot of money for a couple twists of the curling iron... ?

I would wash my own hair and blow it out the night before then have her curl it

More than likely the $30 for your blow-out is an additional add-on to their bridal package (because they are charging you more already, maybe you get a break on add-ons). The $40 for the bridesmaid is probably the normal add-on price for a blow-out. Or it might just be the actual cost of one. And the $85 is probably their charge for "special occasion" hair. Regardless of what's getting done; curls, up-dos, special clips placed in their hair. That's more than likely their basic charge for "special occasion" hair.

Also, just sent you a PM.

    Hi!

I know it seems like a "few twists of the curling iron", but there's actually more to it than that. Bridal hair costs what it does because of the time it takes to do. This is a style that has to last all day, so the hair is actually being set instead of just curled. This hairstyle has to hold up through pictures, dancing, sweating, .......
Some hairstylists set each curl individually in pin curls to get long lasting hold, and depending on hair length/texture it can take a really long time! If you want a blow out on top of that, it's an extra 30-45 mins.
Recommendation: Someone mentoned it before, your better off going a day or two before to get a blow out, or do it yourself the night before. Freshly shampooed hair is usually too "soft" and is harder to get to hold. Good Luck!
