Where to put monetary gifts at the wedding?

AT the wedding reception when guests give you monetary gifts are you supposed to use some kind of bridal pouch and carry it around or do you make some kind of decorative box for the guests to put them?

My mom used a pouch, but I am not sure if they do things differently now.

I know a lot of our guests are coming from out of town, so I am sure we can anticipate more monetary gifts than actual presents.

Thanks.

I think a card box is standard, just put it on your gift table & guests will get the idea. :)

One of my bridesmaids is making me a card box. She is decorating a box with fabric and decorating it to be consistant with my wedding theme.  There are a lot of beautiful card boxes available on Etsy.com.  You can custom order them on there as well.

I am a Florida hair and makeup artist and do a lot of weddings and hear a lot of questions like these.  Most people put monetary gifts in cards too big for a pouch, and if you combine the weight of all that paper, too heavy to carry around with you.  If the givers aren't aware of the times enough to hang on to the gift until the reception, then you could assign someone (like the bridal guestbook registry attendant does) to stand by the gift table and collect the card-only gifts in a basket, then take it to the ceremony to keep an eye on it.  He/she could bring it back to the gift table for the opening of the gifts, or put it somewhere you have picked prior so that you can pick it up and take it with the rest of the gifts.

most people use a cardbox, but make sure it's placed somewhere safe or weighed down so someone can't walk off with the box and/or it's contents.

I agree with PP. I would also have someone you trust empty it every so often and put the enevolpes somewhere safe( someones locked car, etc) .
