What song are you ladies walking down the aisle to? I was originally thinking I'd do Canon in D, but now I may want to go a little outside the box. Ideas?
I plan on having my best friend's brother's quartet play orchestral versions of Bittersweet Symphony, Don't Stop Believing and Your Love Is King (I'd go down the aisle when that came on). I personally hate traditional wedding music :-P
Ooh! I LOVE this topic. I walked to an instrumental version of "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. At first, I was going to have a friend play it live, but ended up finding a fantastic (and free!) version via Youtube (the guy had a link to a really nice quality mp3).
I really wanted something outside of the box, but not overly modern. For other music in the ceremony (prelude, wedding party processional, etc..) I tried to mix modern takes on classical (acoustic gutair versions of Ode to Joy and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring) with a few modern songs redone by Vitamin String Quartet. I got a ton of compliments on our ceremony music, and it just really fit us.
I'm walking to Trumpet Voluntary from the filmscore 2001:A Space Odyssey. It sounds like a strange movie to take something from, but I like that arrangement of the song the best.
Ave Maria for me. My Dad's parents had that as their processional and I used my Mom's parents processional, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, as my recessional.
I'm going with Canon in D.... I have always wanted that song and still do. We haven't nailed down our recessional but I know the song that will play when we come back into the church to usher everyone out will be the Hallelujah Chorus - it will make my mother laugh til she cries... I'm her last to get married and she never thought it would happen...
I'm not huge into traditional music, but my mom and sister went down to Cannon in D so I like that tradition, and am continuing it. But, my bridesmaids, grandparents, ect will be going down the aisle to "Fields of Gold" by Sting. We're having a harpist and it is amazing on harp.
The processional for the bridesmaids was Psalm 19 by Marcello, and I walked down to Laudate Dominum by Mozart (played on Organ with vocals by a good friend of ours). Our recessional was the Widor Toccata.
Laudate Dominum - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWQi2n1xWd0 (we had just organ and voice, but I couldn't find one on youtube, this isn't the best version, but you get the idea)
I'm doing a traditional Korean Folksong~Arirang played by a solo cello. It is just beautiful-and I too did not want traditional wedding music. As a classical violinist, I vowed to never have Canon in D be played at my wedding (not that I don't think it's beautiful, I've just played it in TONS of weddings and it's gotten old to me)
Loving the song choices, ladies! Gotta love "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds and I love the Feather Theme, too!.. I had considered those for awhile too. We shall see!
Katralex, if you'd like the solo piano sheet music for The Luckiest, let me know. DH made an solo piano arrangement of it (because he couldn't find any that weren't for voice with piano accompaniment), and recorded himself playing it as a surprise to me for our first dance! I've got PDFs of his arrangement.
After the first time I heard "You Get Me" by Michelle Branch, I knew it was the song I wanted to walk down the aisle to. That was years ago, and I still feel the same way, I it so much.

I can attest to the fact that Bimbi's hubby's arrangement is beautiful, as we almost used it at our wedding, but trying to coordinate getting a proper electric piano to our site just got too difficult, and our potential pianist ended up not having enough time to practice :-)
I used an acoustic guitar version of Canon in D. I liked that it was a slightly non-traditional version of a traditional song. Then we used U2's "Beautiful Day" as our recessional.
I'm walking down the aisle to the Vitamin String Quartet's version of "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. It's my absolute favorite song of all time and has a lot of personal meaning for me and FI.
