Hi! I hope the planning for your big days are going well!!

I currently live in Montana and we are possibly moving to Texas in the next few months. I was hoping to get some insight on towns to live in, seeing how every towns webpage makes it look perfectly idilic ;).  My brother just moved to college station, studying at A&M a few months ago so I was hoping to see if anyone has insight on towns surrounding or your opinions on towns to live in that are a young population ( my H is 25 and I am 24) We want to get pregnant this year (middle to end of the year). We have done the 4 yr college seen and moved on (as in we need to be out of the neighborhoods from our drunken friends having full street house parties thirsty thursday through Monday), but we still want to be close to things to do, going out, having a good time in general. We aren't old and boring just yet haha. So are there any towns you girls would reccommened in between Dalls/Fort Worth and the College Station/Bryan area?

We would ideally like to rent a house with 2-3 bdrms and is pet friendly. Most the places we have seen in the Bryan area are all leasing after May 14th --so semester ending. Which could possibly mean all college students renting and a rerun of our crazy /crap shack house college days. We need to be a tad farther from that. Any advice would be great from the locals :)

    I attended Texas A&M and now live in Dallas. There arent many big active cities between the two. If you want a city that is young and fun but has nice family neighborhoods that is close to College Station, I would consider living on the north side of Houston (less than an hour away from cs) or even Austin (2 hours). I grew up in Austin and it is an amazing city!

    I love Austin.  Property values are lower in Dallas though I think (although if you're renting, I don't know which is better--rentals in Dallas seem insane to me).  The distance between here and Bryan is pretty far.  Are you wanting to live closer to Dallas or closer to College Station?

    College Station does have some really great pockets for families to live in, and GREAT schools. And because of the university, they regularly get good plays, events, and obviously sporting events. I went to school there, and ended up meeting a couple of great families through my church. I wouldn't rule it out completely.

    Waco is between them, but it's very conservative. My aunt and uncle work there because my uncle works at Baylor, but they can't wait to move out once he retires.

    Burleson is also a nice suburb-ish, but way closer to Fort Worth than College Station.
    Just my .02, I do not like Houston. It is humid, crowded, and dirty. BUT also, there is usually a Dallas/Houston showdown, everyone picks a side.

    Oh also, Austin is AMAZING but I feel like it's kind of expensive and overcrowded. I LOVE visiting but I would have a hard time settling there.

    Austin is wonderful but a good sub of Austin is Round Rock. Cute quiet town....I have family that lives there and we enjoy visiting from time to time there.

    My in-laws-to-be live in College Station, near Wellbourne.  It's a more rural area, although suburbia is moving in.  The area certainly has plenty of amenities, areas that get you away from it all, and things to do, but it's very Aggie-centric.  That's not a good or bad thing, per se, just the way things are.
    Austin has some very family-friendly neighborhoods and suburbs.  (My FI lived there most recently, and his brother's family is south of town.)  Definitely reasonable for trips to CS.

    North Dallas to CS takes us about 3.5-4 hours driving, depending on stops.  
    There are some towns inbetween, but they tend to be small and more rural.
