i vetoed a ritz carlton wedding site (when all i had to do was say YES and my parents were ready with the deposit) because when my parents, fiance and i were walking around the hotel/ golf course / spa/ complex for our destination wedding, a colleague of his called and mentioned that they had been to a wedding there and the food was horrendous...

    SOO i totally panicked...

now im axing the guest list from 85 to 35 and moving the entire thing to the most phenomenal restaurant i can find in lisbon, portugal.

everything i had been planning crashed and burned.... i have 20 people flying to europe for the wedding and to me, the food and the authenticity of the portuguese culture has become the most important thing.

i AM marrying a portuguese man and living here happily ever after and all.... why not make THAT be a huge focal point, as opposed to the golf course or the spa....

[QUOTE]I'm worried about the cake. Our cake budget is SO small because I just can't justify spending like $1000 on a cake. But I'm worried I won't be able to get anything for what I'm prepared to spend and will just have to forego it all together.

Everybodies definition of small is different, but if your cake budget is almost non-existant (like mine) you might try something that my brother did for his wedding. I liked the idea so much that my FI and I are stealing it for our wedding. We are purchasing a small two tiered wedding cake from a local vendor (I think he said it would feed 20 people). This will give us something to cut for the cake cutting ceremony and for pictures. The rest of the cake will be from Costco. Once the cake cutting ceremony is done, the cake is generally taken back to the kitchen and cut for serving anyway and IMO Costco cake is often better than expensive wedding cake.

I think mine is if everything will look okay. I did all of my own centerpieces and design. It's a little nerve-wrecking to think I may get in there with everything and hate it.

[QUOTE]My biggest worry is that I won't be happy with the Ceremony or reception sites. I had my heart set on this beautiful ballroom that was around 35 minutes away from my house, but even though we arent getting married until July of 2012, it is already completely booked solid. So our backup plan came into effect and we are getting married in the same church and having our reception in the church's hall that my parents did. That being said my FI is freaking out about it, which in turn is making me freak out about it. My older sister got married at this ballroom and they were talking about it at her surprise birthday party on saturday and my FI was kind of like back into freak out mode about this whole thing. I keep telling him no matter where we get married all that really matters is that we end up Mr. and Mrs. Wade at the end of the day, but deep down i don't want to get married there either. And my dress, my mom talked me into getting this dress 2 years in advance and now im not a big fan, but of course it is non-returnable.

I say keep looking. You still have time and you might find something even better! You have to get married somewhere that makes you both happy. You might regret it otherwise.

[QUOTE]. . . I would really like it if a bakery could do them for less than $2 a cupcake . . .

Are there any Farmer's Markets in your area? We have a few in my area, and there are lots of independent bakers that bake delicious cupcakes daily for between $1.50 - $2.00 each, depending on the flavor.

Of course, there's the budget! We're also doing it mostly on our own.

And, there's the DJ. As our wedding present, my dad took care of booking and paying for him. Supposedly, he has lights and an advanced system so he can accomodate pretty much any request, and a few hours into the reception (when eveyone is good and drunk), he'll pull out the karaoke machine. That all sounds fine to me. The catch - this guy primarily works at a strip club. I'm hoping my reception will feel like a wedding and not like a club, especially a strip club!

Above all, though, I'm worried about head count. We're hoping for (and paying for) 75 people, so we sent out 90 invites. So far, we've had only 40 confirm, and 20 have already declined. We're getting married in MA on December 18 of this year, and most of FI family is from PA (where we live now), while most of our friends are in ME (where we went to school). We chose MA because it's half-way and no one would have to travel extremely far (about a 6 hour drive from each location). But, we're still getting a lot of excuses like "there'll be snow" and "it's too close to Christmas".
