Don't laugh but

Ok so we thought we had decided to go to couples swept away in Jamaica but then we saw that they might have topless beaches has anyone been? My FI is against this due to religion and such and are both uncomfortable with this. How much of this topless stuff goes on?

Re: Don't laugh but

  • I think there was a post similar to this recently. I believe they said most resorts in Jamaica do have a topless beach but it is usually secluded and not very noticable. Hopefully someone has actually been there and can comment.

  • Swept Away is the only Couples that does NOT have au naturel sunbathing. The others do and those beaches are secluded away from the others.

most islands do have topless beaches. it's common in europe so many places that have al ot of europeans (curacao, dominican republic etc..) have topless beaches.
really-it's not a big deal. they're just boobs.

  • From my experience, most Jamaica resorts that have topless or nude beaches/pools, keep them pretty well seperated from the regular areas. Thus, if you don't want to see any nude/topless sunbathers - it's pretty easy to avoid. You can always call the resort before booking to find out exactly where those areas are located.

  • We went to Sandals Negril a couple years ago and I didn't even realize there was a nude beach next to our hotel.  The first and only time I noticed was when we were departing on our booze cruise and someone pointed it out.
  • I don't know about the specific resort you're talking about, but when I was in Cuba all beaches were 'tops optional.' They get a lot of European travellers as well as Canadian. There weren't many people going topless, but there were some, and it wasn't a spectacle. My understanding is that many of the resorts in the Dominican and Jamacia do have separate area.

As PP said, it's not a big deal. No one's looking. But if you're not comfortable with it, call or email ahead. It wouldn't stop me though.

  • I was at that resort 10 years ago, and at that time, there was nothing inside the resort area that was topless.
