Vendor reviews

Hey there all! I have been meaning to post these reviews for quite a while so here they are from my wedding on 8/14/2010. If anyone has any questions, just let me know!

Venues
Bellarmine Chapel, Cincinnati: A: We had a great experience with our ceremony throughout the preparation process and the day of. They gave us lots of advice and information, and took care of everything we needed.

Music Hall Ballroom, Cincinnati: A: You cannot beat the beauty of this historic venue. I have loved it for years and was so grateful we got to use it as our venue. It was great for our gigantic wedding. I was glad they let us bring in an outside caterer, although the bar selections were slightly restrictive. With parking available in a garage across the skywalk, it is convenient for guests, but is $5 a car. We were able to make a deal with the garage manager so that we could pay for our guests' parking. The whole event was great.

Caterer:
Funky's Catering, Cincinnati:
A: You absolutely cannot beat the quality of Funky's food. It is amazing. Although a little pricier than some other catering companies, it is absolutely worth the cost. They do their cooking on-site, so everything is fresh and delicious. A little negotiating allowed us to knock down the price a bit as well. They also do a great job of presentation and getting you exactly what you want. I got GREAT feedback from the guests about the food.

Cake:
Spoon Fulla Sugar, Cincinnati: A: I know it seems like I am being easy on these vendors, but everything just went so well! These people make a great cake. Their customer service is excellent, their cake is delicious, and it was beautiful to boot. I got lots of compliments on the cake as well.

Dress:
Bridal and Formal, Reading: C: I ended up getting my dress here because it was the dress In loved the most, and truly, you cannot beat Bridal and Formal's selection. The prices are not bad either, if you follow their advice as to what racks to choose from. However, the atmosphere is not good; you dress and undress in front of other brides and their guests. Also, I ordered my dress in January, was told it would be in in June, and got it the first week of July. Not terrible, but it did make me quite nervous. I enjoyed the atmosphere and customer service much better across the street at Cincinnati Bride.

Mon Cheri Bridals: B+: I tried on a lot of dresses, and I liked this one the best. It was a Mon Cheri Phoebe. I was able to special order it for my height so I didn't need it hemmed. The only problem was that some of the detailing around my hip started to come off right after the ceremony, and my bridesmaids had to nail glue it back on, lol.

Tuxedos:
Brogan and Hesketh Formalwear, Cincinnati: A+: From start to finish, these guys were great. Amazing prices, great customer service, and they made sure to match our color scheme. Would recommend them to anyone.

Bridesmaid dresses:
David's Bridal Kenwood, Cincinnati: B+: Although I did not love my wedding dress shopping experience at David's, they did a good job on the bridesmaid dresses. Their prices are great, good color selection, and they have dresses to fit any body type. It was important to me to keep the costs down for my girls and we were able to do that here. The only thing I didn't love was that the dress we chose came in an awkward, windbreaker type fabric that my 16-year-old sister hated. It's great to be able to use a chain like David's if you have people scattered throughout the country, although I'd rather shop at independent businesses.

Flowers:
Mary's Country House of Flowers, Mary Schneider, CIncinnati: B: Mary is great. She works out of her house and is very experienced in the flower business. They flowers were great (although my bouquet was missing one color I requested - it was not all that important to me). I didn't have many requests but Mary did great with the little guidance I gave her. She is a little flighty, but truly very good at what she does.

Alterations:
LIsa Rose Alterations, Cincinnati: C: I was really not impressed by the work LIsa Rose did on our alterations. My mom was unhappy with the cheap looking hem they put in her dress, and my gown unded up with a snag (luckily along a seam) the first time I tried it on after they altered it. The day before the wedding, it was not ready when I came to pick it up, meaning I had to wait 15 minutes, but I had lots of other things to do. It was okay, not great.

DJ:
Tony Krebs, Greater Cincinnati DJs on Demand, CIncinnati: A-: Tony is a great DJ, very experienced and helpful. He did a great job with the suggestions we made. He was almost a little too over the top but he was definitely a crowd pleaser. The only issue was that my husband made a playlist on his iPod for the cocktail hour and dinner part, and Tony restarted it from the beginning twice. Overall, a great time. He knocked down his price after some negotiating as well.

Limo:
Land Force One, Cincinnati: A-: This limo was very nice, great price and service. The driver even stood outside with us, umbrellas in hand when it looked like it was going to rain. It did have a pole on the inside... but I will tell you the groomsmen had fun with that! It had faux wood floors and a black leather interior. Very nice in general.

Photographer:
Simply Perfect Photography, Sarah Thacker: A: Sarah was so great, making sure she knew what we wanted in our photos, and working out a great package for us, in which we are allowed to have the rights to the photos and print them at will. She is super easygoing and professional.

I think that's all! Peace and happy weddings!

how many guests did you have?  Also, are the renovations at Music Hall finished?

We had 350 guests show up - crazy, I know. The renovations at Music Hall I think are slated to happen during 2011, and haven't started yet as far as I know. Online it says it will be closed from approximately May, 2011 until October, 2012.
