What would you want at a pirate party?

Yep, you heard right... I'm having a sleepover on Friday, and FI and I are hosting a pirate party on Saturday. I'm 13, apparently.

What sort of things do you think would be fun to have? Food ideas, drink ideas (we already have Captain Morgan rum!), costume ideas, decor, music, anything? I fail at brainstorming.

Pirate parties are the best. We celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day in Sept. (the 14th?) every year. There is a site (which I can find if you'd like) that changes your real name into your "pirate name" and we usually make name badges with the pirate names on them.

Rum punch (you've got the Captain covered,) pirate costumes, and adding "ahrg" or "me mateys" to the end of every sentence is fun too.

ETA: Sorry, this sounded a little "OMG I like Pirates too!1!!1" lame.
Anyway, here's the name generator site if your interested:

  • FI will go nuts over those little swords! Perfect! He definitely keeps them whenver he gets them in a sandwich or something.
  • We had pirate decor including appetizers in treasure chests, big goblets for drinking rum punch or just rum, everyone dressed like a pirate (except one guy who came as black spiderman....), we talked like pirates but that got old.  Here are some pics:

Wow...they are all of me.  That doesn't help much, but I AM cute.  You can see a little of the decor. We hung black and red drapery to block out all of the windows.

  • Oh, we used a treasure map for the table cloth too.

  • This may sound silly, but what about a "treasure hunt"?

You could get a bunch of those gold chocolate coins and hide them in places where they're bound to be found: under the coffee table, by the hand towel in the bathroom, next to the napkins, basically where ever your guests will stumble across them...

You could make a game out of it - whoever has the most by midnight gets a prize ;)

Evidently I'm a 13-year-old too because I'm really excited about this idea...
  • I'll take Johnny Depp at the sleepover, please.

Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • I want a pirate party.

I'm not really much help because the last time I did one, it was for my brother's 9th birthday. He's 28 now.

But I did a cake shaped like a treasure chest -- the top was on a separate board so it could be propped open. I cut out a small area inside to fill with candies (coins, necklaces, hard candy that looked like jewels. Some spilled out. The second cake was like a pirate's map.

Since they were kids, we did games like walk the plank (they had to balance on a skinny board). They all wore patches, had fake tattoos. He wanted hotdogs for the lunch, so I sliced a long slit half way up to form legs, two slits on the side for arms, poked some X-shaped holes in the top for eyes and a small slit for a mouth. When you cook them, the slits spread, so they were basically dead men (cover w/ ketchup and they are clearly victims of battle, lol).

My mom had a big plastic skeleton that we put in a corner, complete w/ eyepatch, scarf, jewelry.

We had Goonies playing in the background because it was way before PotC came out.
