Who is hiring a day of wedding coordinator?

I would love to hire one for my rehearsal and wedding day but my fiance doesn't really see a need for one. I found one for less than $500 in our area which I thought was a great deal but my fiance didn't see it that way. Our only other option for having someone help out those days would be for having a friend or family member help direct everything which I don't want to do because I don't want any of them to miss out on the wedding. We're getting married at a plantation house so all of the bridal party and myself will be walking out of the house out to a field and I just think it would be so much easier to have someone direct all of that and take care of meeting with the vendors the day of the wedding. My fiance doesn't seem to realize that he isn't going to be the one running around that day making sure all the vendors get there on time and get paid and I just want to make sure everything is timed correctly. Planning is just a bit frustrating lately.

So who is planning on hiring one and do you think they will be a big help to you that day?

I am not hiring one, but a day-of coordinator is included in my package from my venue. The hotel we are having our reception at has 3 weddings each day so I'm glad there will be someone that actually works there to be able to handle all of the bull! If it wasn't included, however, I would not be paying the extra money.

The lady who runs our venue is going to act as a "Day of" coordinator for us. I have to meet with her in March to go over time line and such, so we will work on the details then. She said her main goal is to run interference when someone wants to stress me out and to make sure that the day runs smooth ... I think I can be happy with that.

With my wedding being a destination wedding, I have a coordinator over in the Dominican Republic. However, when I was a senior in High School, my mothers friend told me that when I got married she would plan my wedding. Now that I am getting married she is my wedding planner. She acts as the Liason between me and the DR wedding coordinator. She will probably get to enjoy the wedding when we get there becuase the coordinator wil take over.

We hired a day of coordinator. We had no plans to, but once we really got into the planning we decided we needed one. I didnt want my parents running around doing all of that!

I have a partial planner (which includes DOC) plus the venue provides one. I wanted a third party coordinator bc she works for ME and not the venue-so if there are any issues she will be looking out for my interests vs the venue's. I don't have a wedding party so there aren't many people to wrangle and the ceremony/reception are on the same grounds. Mostly I just wanted to switch my brain off and have someone else there who will make sure there is toilet paper in the bathrooms (I was at a wedding once where they ran out and the poor MOB was searching for more) and someone who if the DJ is blaring the music too loud, all I have to do us give her a look and she will take care of it. I don't think it's 100% necessary, but it would be nice to have someone who can make sure your favors are on the table, the flowers get moved from the ceremony to the reception, and if the catering manager starts getting too pushy ( which also happened at a friend's wedding, we were trying to bustle her dress and he physically pulled her to her reception) she can put him in his place.

One of my mom's friend is going to be helping us. She is going to be our "clock" and make sure everything is running on time, etc.

I had a similar discussion with my fiance about the getting a DOC/wedding planner. We ended up getting one, just to ease some stress on the day of and leading up the event. I think I will be really thankful once June comes around and things get kind of crazy.

I agree with PPs that it would be nice to have a DOC to keep things on time and not have a family or friend worry about those details.

We never decided to "hire" one, but our venue "provides" one. Meaning that when you book at our venue, you are given a coordinator, and then you have to pay a set up fee which goes towards paying her.

We have a wedding planner, than also a DOC that comes with our reception venue. Both have been extremely helpful. The wedding planner has been worth every dime, I honestly havent felt stressed or overwhelmed once in the past year of planning.

Since I'm having a destination wedding my package includes one but I also decided to hire my own DOC because my coordinator from the hotel will not help with any outside vendors. I ended up hiring mostly outside vendor because of course they were cheaper then the hotel's recommended vendors. So my DOC will be there to work for me (focus on what I need), make sure all the vendors do what they are supposed too, and make sure everything runs smoothly.

I ended up deciding on her because the price was so good. I got mine for $250 for half a day which is like 6 hours I think.

I wasn't going to, but after talking to a friend of mine who got married last year, she said it was the best decision she made. I don't want my mom, anyone in the BP, or another family member to have to deal with any issues that arise so I have hired one.

We have hired one, for the same reasons PPs mentioned. I don't want anyone in my family to stress about things getting done on that day.

I agree, but a little more strongly. In addition to the examples above there are so many little moving parts, I would not even think about going without a coordinator. From things like lining up the bridesmaids and groomsmen, starting the ceremony music at the right time, to making sure the vendors and bridal party are where they are supposed to be on time, paying the outside vendors, and making sure your centerpieces and extra favors, etc. are collected after the reception.... I definitely don't want myself or my family to worry about those nit picky things when we should be enjoying the special day.

We are. The only one I've heard back from so far is $750 which seems like a lot. So I'll keep looking!

Yes, we hired one. In Charlottesville, most are $1500-$3000. Mine is from Lynchburg and was $850.

My venue will provide one for $750 extra, but I wanted someone who worked for me, who was there to make sure my contracts were excecuted properly.

My church has one that runs the rehersal and the wedding, and my reception venue also has one. All is included in the prices we paid for the venues. If they were not included, I think I would still want one, just to ease on the stress. But that is just me, I know several people who did not have one and have made it through fine
