S/O registries

So a lot of us have established households and don't need extra pots and pans.  So I'm curious, what did people put on their registries?

We've been putting stuff that goes along with our hobbies, like brewing beer or baking.  And things to help fix up our house.

Re: S/O registries

  • We moved in together 2+ years ago and essentially already have everything but I'm really looking forward to registering for upgrades of what we do have.  Most of our pots & pans are old or not great quality.  We need new sheets & towels badly.

  • - nicer pots and pans
    - new everyday dishware
    - china
    - nice flatware
    - nice barware
    - a new vacuum cleaner
    - fun cooking stuff like a fondue set, a deep fryer, holiday serveware
    - nicer towels
    - an extra set of bedding
    - a gps unit

We had no difficulty finding stuff even though we technically have everything we need.
  • There's a whole sticky on the Registering and Gifts board called "Don't know what to register for?" with a ton of non-traditional suggestions.

  • Upgrades for us too. We have a functional house but a lot of it could stand to be replaced - pots, pans, bedding, cookie sheets, glasses.... there are also some things I've been wanting but didn't want to spend money on myself like a steam mop, crock pot, flannel sheets, nice pillows, brita water dispenser...

  • We're upgrading some of the items we already have.  We did register for a couple of things for family use as well.
  • We had been on our own forever too but we still had pots and pans from college days, boring dishes, pint glasses from bars instead of nice glasses, etc.  So we registered for a nice everyday set of dishes with coordinating glasses, tons of baking and cooking stuff, an ottoman for the living room, a laptop desk thingy, wine glasses, a really nice deep serving platter, a dip tray, a food processor, decorative shelves.  We also registered for towels and curtains but didn't get any.

  • Setting up our kitchen, mostly...we have almost nothing, our kitchen stuff is either really cheap or already falling apart.  We basically registered for the really generic registry items.

  • Lots of upgrades and nice things that we wouldn't normally splurge on (like a $30 bathroom wastebasket).

    Oh, and a Wii. Obviously.

  • Upgraded everyday dishes, new towels, new sheets, new pots and pans.  Maybe some upgraded bathroom stuff like a new soap holder and toothbrush holder.

  • I wanted to register for a dyson vacuum cleaner as they are awesome but I don't feel right putting something that costs at least $300 on a registry.  We've done a lot of garden stuff as well.
  • Upgrades, stuff relating to our hobbies, and some movies and video games.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

What Dyson is $300?  I have seen for them for at least $400 or more.

We have great pots and pans, and about 25 pieces of stemware, but our plates are from when I first moved to LA at age 21. I think they are from Target. So we're looking forward to getting new place settings. Also another set of silverware, a kitchenaid mixer, and some baking stuff, which we have in short supply. We'll do some new towels and sheets at BB&B because you always wear those out eventually.

  • bbyckes:  Used or refurbished ones are $300.  Sometimes you can find them on woot for that price as well.
  • Some kitchen gadget upgrades.  Flatware to replace the crap I bought when I got my first college apartment.  Dishes that WE picked out, as opposed to handmedowns from other people moving into smaller houses.  An extra set of sheets to make laundry less stressful.

The one we registered for was $499 I believe.  We figure that even if we don't get it, we'll get the discount on it and use any gift cards we happen to get.  But our $399 pots and pans set was already purchased, so who knows.  People can be surprisingly generous.

We also got some "larger" gifts from friends that pitched in to get one big thing.  And a lot of places give you a 10% completion discount, which is a great way to buy things that you didn't receive.
  • Camping stuff?  Home depot things?  I've been thinking of the same things, as we've already established a household as well.
