So, almost six months after our wedding, I am going to trash my dress. I am WAY more excited about this than I was about my bridal pictures! Seriously... during my bridal photo shoot, we passed a beautiful swimming pool with no one around... and my first thought was "Dang, I want to jump in there in my wedding dress... but I can't..."
Well, no limits anymore! I'm married and I can do what I want! PLUS, bonus! My husband is coming with me, assuming he doesn't have to work that day.
The photographer who did our engagements, bridals, and wedding is AWESOME enough to do this TTD shoot for free... because they want to use the photos as promotion. My makeup artist is AWESOME enough to do my hair and makeup at cost. I can't help but feel like a million bucks right now.
SO... (those who forgot I'm wordy, here's your reminder...) I am working out exactly what we're going to do. Not exactly, really... just some ideas.
1) We are going here:

There's also a little paved stream that leads to the big fountain, apparently. It's very shallow, but will make a great shot for the rain boots I bought.
2) I bought these:

I also have my wedding shoes and purple petticoat ready to go.
3) I need an umbrella, preferably solid purple but I'm open to other colors.
4) I'm going to pick up a cheap grocery-store bouquet of flowers on my way.
5) I'm still collecting water-related (especially fountain) TTD photos for inspiration. Like so:

(actually I'm pretty sure that's the same dress I have, too)

6) I need to figure out what to do with my hair. It looks like this:

(minus tha cat ears... those are optional)
What do you think? Ideas? Suggestions?
Don't tell me I'm trashy, we've already established that. I'm trashy as all get-out and I don't care. This is FUN!

Ha, ha. You're a nerd. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
My husband will be doing some photos with me as long as he doesn't have to work that day. He just asked his boss about that weekend, and it looks like chances are good he'll be off. Apparently, he has noticed how excited I am and wants to participate. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

This one's nice, too (again, gotta scroll down past the massive giant tire pictures which sorta freak me out):

Of course, it's your dress, and you're obviously excited about this, but I'm very against this trashing-the-dress trend
[QUOTE]I don't mean to rain on parades or be judgmental, but I've always thought trashing the dress was one of the most wasteful trends in weddings/divorces lately. Not when there are significantly better uses for a wedding dress, like, brides against breast cancer. You donate your dress, rather than ruin it, and they sell it and donate the money to breast cancer. Of course, it's your dress, and you're obviously excited about this, but I'm very against this trashing-the-dress trend

If you read OP she already said people would be judgemental and she didn't care. She is going to run in water with it not truly trash it.

... because brides in previous years tended to donate their dresses to charity? I think most of them ended up preserved in boxes that sat in the attic for years.
Not saying you're wrong that there are great causes you can donate your dress to if you choose to, but I don't think it's 'wasteful' to do a trash-the-dress photo shoot if it makes you happy. Frivolous? Sure, but weddings in general are rather frivolous. Heck, why don't we all just go to a courthouse and get married and donate all that money to charity? That would be a lot less wasteful!
So kudos to you for planning on donating your dress to charity. It's a great thing, and should be encouraged. Personally, I think I'm going to do what my aunt did - I'm going to make it into a baby blanket for my future children. That way it can be used again in a very meaningful way. Is that "wasteful" since it's not going to charity?

Trashing the dress is fun. People are allowed to have fun in life. Do you donate every penny you make to charity? When you go out for a fun night with your friends any money you spend could've been given to charity. It is HER wedding dress that she paid for, if she wants to do something fun with it, then she should be able to do so without judgement.

Of course not. I think that's beautiful and meaningful. I'm just expressing my general disapproval of trashing the dress. And as I said, it sounds like she's excited, so kudos for her. Not for me.
Weddings are ridddddddddddddiculously expensive. So are dresses. I'm all for informal backyard affairs to save money, but that doesn't mean everyone should do that. I just wanted to raise a point in case other people weren't aware of other charitable options.

People are aware. If you really wanted to make this point, why not wait a few days and make a new post about it? Instead of just raining on Jeana's parade (!!!). Your reply was just being a total Debbie Downer.
What rock have I been under!?! I never heard of doing this but I'm totally IN LOVE with the idea!!! Have fun, Jeana!!
Rain boots are adorable! Such a cute idea!
I actually wrote a blog about this. I did consider charitable options. But allow me to make a few points:
1) I volunteer every Saturday for a no-kill animal rescue group. I design nearly all of their print media. I have helped increase adoptions and create a cohesive, recognizable brand image. I am on the board of directors. I run volunteer drives and plan fundraisers. I do all of this while in college and working part-time. It's not like I'm a selfish bitch by nature.
2) I have three beautiful and very wasteful prom dresses at my parents' house. For ten years, they've been sitting in a trunk. That is what happens to most wedding gowns today. I'm going to donate all three prom dresses to the Cinderella Project or a similar organization (they provide prom dresses to girls who can't afford it). If my wedding dress is still intact after I run around in a fountain, I will also get it cleaned and donate it. Since it's taffeta (not silk or anything too incredibly expensive), it may very well end up surviving in good shape.
So, please don't worry about my frivolous and wasteful adventure. I have thought it through. And folks who don't like it can kiss my galloshes.

Okay, but only because your galloshes are super adorable!
Then again, I wore animal print to prom and our formal banquet, so it fit.

I support this. . . being a drag queen must get expensive!

I walked up to him, dressed as a woman at a drag show. (He was a patron, not performing.) And said, I think you'd like my prom dress.
Great opening line, huh?
He was really thankful and sent me pictures of him performing in the dress.
Pics?
Also, if anyone's interested in my TTD blog entry (or my blog in general):

I've spent the last thirty minutes staring at a framed prom picture and searching for a digital copy. I think I'm going to have to provide this proof later.
I've even searched FB.
