Workout Hair

Good Morning ladies!

I have a question about hair. For those who work out, what do you do to your hair? I am looking for a new style that will work with me because I work out 4 times a week and I sweat terribly in my hair. Currently I have a sew-in but I have a little bit of my hair out in the front and it is NOT working for me. I'm tired of having crazy looking hair, just so I can work out. Any suggestions ladies?

This is a challenge for me as well, so I will be stalking this thread.  I wear my own hair, so I have to wash and get a roller set when I work out - not too convenient. I even though about getting my hair braided just cos of this

I haven't had my natural hair out (straightened) in like 9 months so that I could work out and not look crazy myself, I have had a full sew-in weave twice (none of my hair is out) micros, braids with extensions and two strand twists without extensions.

I actually talked to my stylist about this cause I have thick hair and sweat in my hair. She suggested tying a bandana or scarf around my head kinda like a headband. Then after working out if my hair is damp then use my blowdryer on the COOL setting to dry it out.

Yeah this is a constant battle for me as well.  I sweat a lot in my head also.  I have relaxed hair.  I workout 3 to four times a week and wash my hair once a week.  It may be gross but I just wash my hair mid week.  After my workouts I use Argan oil and wear my hair in a pony tail until I can wash it.

I tie a bandana over my hair (its relaxed) and wear a cap to keep the sweating from getting too bad, its been helping.  I work out 5 days a week.  I do find that I have to wash my hair more often, which sucks since its so dry here in Colorado.  Still searching for the fabulous moisturizing products that aren't an arm and a leg.

This is what I do when I work out. I put my hair in a high pony tail so that not much of it becomes wet from working out.

Question for the ladies who put their hair up in a pony tail? What time of day do you work out? i work out twice a week in the morning and I get ready at the gym to go to work. When i was putting my sew-in in a high pony tail I would still have to flat iron it for it to be decent to go to work. i do not want to do that with my own hair. that's too much heat.

I would LOVE to get braids, but the last time I got micros they broke the edges of my hair and i am not going through that again.

I take out my sew-in at the end of the month and I'm clueless. i am getting a perm because I am going to a ball but that is going to last for 3 days and then it will be a disaster.

I'm probably no help but ever since I went natural, I condition wash my hair every other day. My style is a wash and go.

    - Wash my hair and apply leave in conditioner
    - divide it in 6 sections and twist it. (I don't know how to braid)
    - Let it dry while I sleep
    - Next morning, undue twist
I'm sure I'm the most lazy person when it comes to my hair.....lol

I work out in the morning.  I roller set ( using the soft rollers) my hair at night.  I dont like to use flat irons.  So when I put my hair in a loose ponytail and take it out when im ready to go, I dont have the extremely tight curls. I wear my hair down most of the time so the parts that may be a bit damp are not visible.

I wear a high and tight ponytail while working out.  By the time I am showered and dressed it has dried.  I also have the option of wash and go.  I like to use Aveda be curly to scruch and go.

Full sew in all the way. I am a chronic head sweater so I have to sew it in. I am going to start working out in the mornings and when I get home from work too so hopefully that wont require too much flat ironing of the weave.

I wear a weave also so I usually just pin curl my hair then tie a satin scarf around it. When its time to take my hair down it had a little curl to it.

It's tough with you working out in the morning and then heading to work. I work out in the evenings so I have time to turn my hair into something.

I'm relaxed and I have stopped using direct heat on my hair for the most part. (Since July '10 - maybe 5-6 curling iron and haven't touched my flat iron!) I co-wash (conditioner wash) mid-week and shampoo wash/deep condition on Saturdays. I do a lot of low manipulation styles - bantu knot-outs and buns and dress 'em up with hair clips and such. If you are working out quite a bit and your head is soaked, it's not good for the salt from the sweat to build up on your scalp/hair.

I often wear my hair in an updo that will last through my workouts.  When I have my permed hair wrapped, I pull it into a pony tail for the gym.

Ugggghhhh, it's so frustrating! I wish I could work out at night, but my schedule is so crazy since I work full time and I'm a full time grad student. I can only work out twice a week a night, the rest is in the day time.

Thank you ladies for your advice and input.....Im still at a loss of what to do with this hair :-(  Hopefully I will figure something  out

This is me! In the past 6 months I have done 2 sew ins with invisible parts , micros, and kinky twists.  I by far prefer the sew in with an invisible twist which leave NO hair out.  I work out in the am and the evening. I leave my hair in a ponytail (high in the am) and will use the instant heat rollers while I'm getting ready. I love those things they heat up in 60 seconds come in a soft travel pouch and were only $14. I either pop them in and then shower or put them in after the shower and while I dress or do makeup (lol, I should say eyeshadow and lip gloss). They give your hair a little body and take the pony bend out.

I will say I loved kinky twists because I washed them every other day with virtually no slippage or breaking

That is so me!!! You are not the laziest person that's me all day. I thought I was the only black woman in American that didn't know how to braid. I'm in transition now and I wash my hair every other day and twist it in either bantu knots or two strand twist, untwist in the morning and go!!
