Random: Names

So I was talking with my friend the other day at happy hour, telling him how my mom randomly asked what girls names we had picked out, because she had a dream we had a girl and named her Sandy, lol.  Then we started talking about names, because we have a few mutual friends who are expecting, so I figured I'd drag the conversation over here...

Favorite boys name?

Re: Random: Names

  • Boys name: Anything that can be shortened to Mac, and Calvin

    Girls name: Cassidy and Fiona

Names I used to like but don't now: Natalie, Kaitlyn, Ryan

Pet Peeves: When people make up names, or change the spelling so it's 'different' but in the end just confuses people.
  • Favorite boys name?  It changes, but right now I like Owen James

Favorite girls name?  Also changes, but I like Claire Elizabeth

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?  Abigail, Aiden (too popular)

Any pet peeves with names?  When people legally name their kids the shortened version of a real name.  Yuneek spellings.  Naming kids after objects/colors/professions (aka...most celebrity kid names).

  • BF and I talk about this a lot. Our favorite girl names are Chloe and Juilette but we don't really agree on any boy names my favorite is Parker or Merrick. My only pet peeve is names that are spelled weird ways.

    Definitely this!

Favorite boys name?   I don't really have a favorite boy name.  Not sure why..I'm pretty open to most boy names

Favorite girls name?   Definitely Charlotte. I already told BF once we get married and have a little one if it's a girl I got the name LOL

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?   I didn't really have any I was set on but mostly the over used ones now like Isabelle, Madison, Jackson

Any pet peeves with names?   Bad nicknames, names that rhyme with everything (like mine) definitely the effed up spellings of totally normal names.

  • Favorite boys name?
Danish Man likes Alexander, I haven't had much thought for boys names.  Though I do like Sean, Jesper, Quin, I'm wandering into Anglo Saxon territory here.

    Favorite girls name?
We both like Penelope, call her Pen-Pen.  I also like Camille, Isobel, Sibohan and Noelani.

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?
Jacob, Twilight killed it for me.

    Any pet peeves with names?
Weird spellings is a common pet peeve.  Also long long names.  Seriously the kid has to write it all down on their emergency card.
  • FI and i have been talking about this recently, 1 of his sisters just had a baby and another is due at the end of this month.

Favorite boys name? I really like Finnegan and Seamus but i'm not Irish and i think it would be odd to use if i'm not. We are in for a rough time if we ever have a boy, we agree on nothing.

    Favorite girls name?
    Alice, Vivienne, Genvieve, Wilhelmina

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?
Astrid, i could never use it because of The OfficeAdelaide, too many Addies running around. Madeline.

    Any pet peeves with names?
Trendy names Or Uneek spellings or clearly defined boys names on a girl.

Names you used to like, but don't anymore? Bailey back when I was a LOT younger, lately Addison, Madeline

Any pet peeves with names? Naming the kid after their favorite movie character.

  • I don't think/talk about this stuff, but maybe it's because I know I'm not having kids. Sometimes I think about what I might name a pet.  =)

I will say my pet peeve is the uneek spellings. I have a hard to spell/pronounce name, and it is a pain. I wouldn't even consider mine unique, it's just a less common name with no standard spelling. Don't subject a child to that.
  • Favorite boys name? I like the name Jack. Unfortunately there is now a dog in the family named Jack so that's probably out the window.

Favorite girls name? I have lots of these. Claire/Clara and Grace (sister's middle name) are my favorites

Names you used to like, but don't anymore? Dispite the fact that I'm 28 and have been married before, I never really thought about future children's names until I started dating BF. So nothing has gotten stale yet.

Any pet peeves with names? Stripperish names.

Unique spellings, ugh. I've actually had people spell my name Alician, and I blame that on the unique spellers.

Favorite girls name?   Alice, Elizabeth, Veronica, Victoria

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?  Bella. I thought it was a cute nickname for Isabella, and I love the meaning, but "Twilight" ruined it.

Any pet peeves with names?  Names that are made-up and/or hard to spell because they have 17 letters. "Shayntillielayce" would be an example.

My BF jokes that we're going to have to do this. And not just first names with the same first letter, but middle names as well. Funny fact about me and my BF: Our first and middle names start with the same letter, so if I take his last name when we get married our initials will be the same. He thinks it would be cute if our kids also have the same initials. I'm considering not taking his name because of this (both the kids with the same initials and us having the same initials) amongst other reasons.

Any pet peeves with names? Funky spellings as well. Nick names as 'birth names'.

    Favorite boys name?
Issac, Gabriel and Ari. I like old-school Hebrew names for boys.

    Favorite girls name?
Shoshanna, Alice, Johanna, Amelia. For girls, I like "classic" names, ones that sound like they're from the 1800's but are still fresh and not too out-of-touch.

Names you used to like, but don't anymore?
Anything that ends with -den: Aiden, Jayden, Kayden/Cayden...they're so overused and so popular that instead of sounding unique, they just sound...unimaginative.

    Any pet peeves with names?
When parents give their kids "yooneek" spellings. They don't make your kid more special, they just make it so their kid will have to spell their name for everyone they meet for the rest of their lives ("It's spelled G-A-H-W-N. But it's pronounced John").

Also, when siblings all have names that are a theme, or too rhyme-y or cutesy. Examples: A friend has twin cousins named Jack and Zack; I know a family where all the kid's names end in "A-H" (Rebekah, Sarah, Jeremiah, Noah).
