Wedding Band Issues!

My husband-to-be chose a custom made engagement ring with a very unique setting.  Unfortunately it is a large setting and will not allow a band to sit flush against it.  It would look ridiculous with a normal band...and other than getting a custom made band...I don't have any options.  My future sister-in-law suggest getting a band and wearing it on my right hand.  I'm not sure how I feel about this idea.  Help?  All thoughts are appreciated!

Re: Wedding Band Issues!

  • I like your sister's idea.  But I would wear the wedding band on my left hand and the ering on my right hand.  Either that, or a get a custom band made.

  • Get a custom band made. I was going to have to have one made to fit against my grandmother's engagement ring, but stumbled on a band that happens to fit it perfect!  If that happens to not be available when we are able to order it, I would go back to having a simple band made. Think on the positive side that no one will have a band like yours!

  • Ditto the custom band. I wouldn't like wearing a wedding band not on my wedding finger.

My ring won't permit a typical wedding band, either.  But I found one with a curve at the perfect spot!  In the end, it looks like the rings were made for each other, yet they are from different stores and designers.  It just took some looking and trying on and talking with jewelers about what I wanted.
  • My ring won't really permit a normal band either, but I found something that might work. I might get a custom band too. Just get a few quotes. They shouldn't be terribly expensive.

  • my ering and wedding band are custom designs, and it was a TON of fun to design both and to work with the jeweller to get it done just the way i wanted it.  the price wasn't terrible, and i love my rings that much more because i was involved in their design.

i say go for the custom route, but get a few quotes to make sure you're getting the best possible price.

i also have a few friends who wear their ering and wedding band on opposite hands, and it looks great on them.  just depends on what you're comfortable with.

    good luck!
  • You might not even need a custom band, I saw several at our jeweler that had notches or curves to accommodate a large setting on an engagement ring.  Go shopping first and see what's out there.  Custom bands aren't all that expensive, mine is going to be just under $1k and that includes diamonds and some fancy filigree work.  If you want a plain band in a basic metal, it should be well under that.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
