Where are you having your rehearsal dinner? Minneapolis locations only please

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to come up with some nice suggestions for a rehearsal dinner. I just found out my FI family is going to pay for it, so my FI wants a fancier place (although I personally think Buca's would be nice). I don't want this dinner to be too similar to the steak/ chicken, etc. that we are serving at the wedding, so I was thinking something more ethnic. Any ideas for a spot downtown Minneapolis or in the Uptown/ Loring Park area? We are most likely going to have people staying at hotels downtown.

Haha, we're actually having ours at Buca's downtown.

FILs are also paying, and anything "fancier" would have been out of their budget. (it'll be just under $1K for 30 people, not including alcohol-which FI and I are covering) I'm very happy with our choice b/c we have a lot of OOT friends in our wedding party so I'm excited to be able to show off downtown to all of them!

I'm not sure exactly what you'd consider fancy, but other places you might want to check out are:

-Loring pasta bar (not really fancy, but great food. I know they have a $1500 catering min for RDs-we looked into possibly having it there)

-Figlios (was in Calhoun Square in uptown, but might be closed due to relocation/construction, but can't remember

-Palomino

-Ruth's Chris (steakhouse)

We're having ours at Pizza Luce, in their newer banquet room. Not "fancy" or ethnic, but def a cool spot with great food.

Again, not necessarily fancy, but it is kinda ethnic: Nye's Polonaise!! We had ours there and it was fantastic! The food was great, and everyone had a good time. Its also kind of a MN landmark, so a neat place to show OOT guests!

We're doing ours at the Old Sphaghetti Factory, I'm not sure how much you're wanted to spend but Basil's in the IDS tower crystal court is really niceand its about $50 per plate.

Palomino is actually closed, and has been for quite awhile. It's sad, because I loved that place. Figlio is also closed. I hope it's temporary, but I think it might be permanent

We're having ours at Buca, but considered the Old Spaghetti Factory. If it were my choice, we'd have gone somewhere edgier, but FMIL is paying for it, so it's her choice. I think their rates are around $35/person for buffet-style excluding alcohol.

Some other ideas:
Bar Lurcat
Joe's (especially if it's in the warmer months and you can go on their roof)
Brit's Pub
Rock Bottom Brewery (good location, I don't particularly care for the food, though)
Hell's Kitchen (not sure about space issues, though, now that they've moved)
Fogo de Chao (very spendy, but soooo worth it)
Solera (they have banquet space upstairs)

oh wow-just goes to show how out of touch I am with Mpls life now that I've been living out of state for 3 years. It's a total bummer that Figlios is closed…they had one of the best happy hours!

Thanks everyone! I would have enjoyed buca's - I think it's a nice atmosphere.

Maggie - How much are you estimating for alcohol? We may have around 30 pple too, so that will be good to share with my FI.

I'll definitley need to consider Hell's Kitchen, Joe's, Bar Lurcat, Solera. Maybe me and FI will need to make time to go out to dinner at some of these places!

Do you know which of these, if any, have banquest space, or a seperate room? I know Solera is huge, but I'm not sure about the other places. Cafe Lurcat would be cool, but again, not sure about space issues.

Il Gato unfortunately is no Figlio :-(, sure its supposed to be similar...but it just doesn't live up to the awesomeness that was Figlio.

Fyi - Figlios re-opened and is now called ILL Gatto. They still have an awesome happy hour! I think their menu is similar than before.

We're doing Spaghetti Factory, it's got a similar feel to Buca's, great food, and is a lot cheaper per person.

Did anyone mention Stella's in Uptown? Kieran's, The Local, Brit's. There is a Greek restaurant, the name of which escapes me, just across the river in NE that I have heard is great for rehearsals.

We had our 10 year high school reunion at Solera on the 3rd floor and we also had access to the outdoor dining area on the roof. The food was pretty good, and like you said, it is huge, but I think they have smaller area's as well. Their outdoor area was my favorite part, it was a really fun atmosphere.
