Ruined Wedding Dress

I am curious if any one has ever ran into this problem

I picked my wedding dress up from the cleaners today and it is ruined. They tinged it a grey color when it started it was ivory. There are marks on the skirt. I am getting married in August and there in no way to get a new dress. I am supposed to start alterations Wednesday of next week. Im so upset because my dress is from Priscilla of Boston before they closed so even i wanted to replace the dress I cant. The cleaners had a lot of recommendations and glowing reviews. I feel so stupid and taken advantage of.

Re: Ruined Wedding Dress

  • Did you follow the recommendations for how to properly clean the dress? I'm curious why you needed it cleaned prior to wearing it--did it come in dirty?

If you followed the directions for cleaning the gown to the T, then I would take it up with the cleaners, though I don't know if you'll get anywhere with them (as far as money back to put toward another dress). At this point, if it's unwearable, I would look at stores where you can purchase off the rack.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm hoping you didn't pay them for their work! If you did, I'd be demanding a refund. Also, post a ton of negative reviews on yelp and other sites so other brides can avoid this business.

Have you tried looking on used dress sites like oncewed.com to see if maybe someone is selling your Priscilla dress? Sometimes they're brand new with the tags because the person found something else. Heres the link to all the Priscilla dresses on oncewed http://www.oncewed.com/used-wedding-dresses/priscilla-of-boston/sort-new-listings/

Otherwise I'd start searching for off the rack gowns at your local boutiques like NOW.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Best of luck!

My first dress was ruined in alterations.

So I went to jcrew.com and ordered something there.  It arrived in less than 5 days.  It is currently at a different alterations place.

Just letting you know that you are not alone.

Check ebay for your dress if you haven't already.
  • Thank you for making me feel a bit better :) I did check ebay ive been looking everywhere. This feeling sucks
  • I'm sorry love, this whole situation sucks. Keep your chin up. You will find something. Make sure when you go into local bridal stores you tell them about your situation and show them pictures of the Priscilla dress. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help you out!

  • The cleaners should absolutely reimburse you for the cost of your ruined wedding dress.  I'm so sorry you will be looking for a dress, but really they should be cutting you a check right away so you can pay for a new one.  Insist on it and don't take no for an answer.

The company you bought your dress from did not clean it? I bought a sample and my dress store is not only cleaning my dress but they're storing it for 18 months! After I put the down payment down they immediatly bagged it to be sent to the cleaners and then boxed to be kept safe!

  • The Company That i bought my dress from closed. So they couldnt store it or clean it. Which i wish that they would have.

How should i go about asking them for the refund?

  • You may not be eligible for a refund from the company you bought your dress from if they are no longer in business and the sale was "as is."  In any case, if you can't find someone reselling the dress in your size I hope you find something you love even better, which you will if you're open to that possibility, definitely look into ordering from J Crew, Ann Taylor, White House Black Market, David's Bridal, or buying off the rack at a boutique or department store.

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you.  Keep searching on ebay.  Are there any consignment shops nearby?  Devote your time and energy to the search for a new dress.  Try to stay positive in the face of this negativity.  Head toward the nearest Nordstrom or J. Crew and keep an open mind.  I wish you the best!

    The cleaners should reimburse you.

Explain the situation to them. Most likely they will offer to clean it again because, believe it or not, sometimes that does the trick. If it doesn't, they owe you for the dress. Take them to small claim court as a last resort.
  • My fiancee and I are going to go into the cleaners on Monday Morning. to talk to them about what they can do for us.

I spent all day today searching didnt come up with anything i loved had a few cute ones.

I need a 18 im not sure on the style of the dress though i know its from the platinum collection
