both my family and my fiance's are from around here. so we have been trying to figure out where to go when. it's a game, really, especially since my parents are divorced and therefore celebrate separately. it's impossible to please everyone.

as it looks right now, we will be going to my mom's side on the 23rd, my fiance's family on christmas eve for a majority of the day/night while swinging by my dad's side later on. christmas day will be breakfast with his parents and then off to my grandma's (my mom's side again). it's nice to see everyone, but driving all over the suburbs sucks.

Ugh, I can totally relate.  Both sets of our parents are married; but each parent's side of the family does a celebration.  We have 6 to do. and we live out of town; so on top of the chaotic 2 days; it's also r/t 6 hrs or so of driving.

Christmas Eve lunch - my dad's side
Christmas Eve dinner - FIL's side; mass with ILs
Christmas morning- open gifts at my parents/breakfast there, after that go to IL's to open gifts
Then we drive 1hr to Iowa City. Celebrate there with MIL's side of the family and drive back to my parents for celebration with my mom's side.

i plan on one day just having a gigantic christmas and making everyone come to us (once we are older and more able to host something like that). i have no siblings and my fiance just has 1 sister (whose husband's family is from new zealand so his family isn't in the picture), so i think it'll be a lot easier to keep everyone in one place.

Same here; our plan is not to have kids until we buy a place. At that point it will be like come here or have a Merry Christmas. lol

I can't wait until we do not have to travel on holidays. I just want to wake up in our house and do our Christmas but that won't happen until we have kids and then that means missing out on my family's stuff since they are all in IN and hubs fam is all here. makes me sad sometimes to live here.

one tradition we do is window shopping on Michigan Ave at least once and visiting the ChristKindle Mart at Daley Plaza. This Saturday is the day we're doing it this year!

HAHA LOL! Totally wish I could do that. We live in central IL but FI is from the Ottawa area and my fam is in Chicago so we spend most of our xmas in a car driving from place to place. plus every year it's different since FI's family always has changing work schedules. I have yet to figure this year out. We are definitely sneaking in some wedding planning over break while we're up in chicago though so I'm excited for that!!!! This is our first year splitting the holidays, so it should be interesting.  My parents are in FL, and they won't be coming up this year since my sister's baby is due right after Christmas Frown  We're going to do Christmas Eve with my sister and her husband, then Midnight Mass.  On Christmas Day, we're doing a movie in the afternoon with FI's family (their tradition) and then traditional Christmas dinner with them.  Midnight Mass will be our first real tradition together since his family always went earlier in the day.  I figure we'll develop more of our own traditions once we have kids.
