Newly Engaged and Need Help with Planning

I am recently engaged and really have no idea where to begin.  I have scheduled an appointment at the Bell Tower and Ashton Gardens, but I really love the look of Bentwater. We plan to have around 150 guests.  I would like to spend around $12,000 total for the ceremony and reception including food, drink, linens, flowers, cake and dj.  Is that even possible?  I currently live downtown, but anywhere in the Houston area would work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    With 150 guest you should be able to make 12,000 work. You could try Butler's Courtyard in League City or Majestic in Downtown.

    Do you want Saturday? I know some places are much more affordable if you do a Friday or Sunday.... so just curious before making suggestions.

    when are you planning on having it? I went to go see ashton gardens. Sat night was around 16 grand. saturday afternoon around 12 grand. sat morning and sun is  around 9 grand. That is just food and renting the place out. (ceremony and reception) I think it is gorgeous. when i get all my deposit together thats where i want to have mine. Bell Tower is extremely expensive from what ive read. it always has four or five dollar signs next to it in the bridal magazines. and bentwater looks gorgeous. from what ive researched it doesnt look so expensive. Hope this helps a little. : ) .

    Bell Tower costs more than Ashton Gardens. I've viewed both. But it is BEAUTIFUL!!!

    Yep, I feel ya.. I was overwhelmed also and I ended up hiring a wedding planner. I am working with Natashia @ Treasured Events and she's great thus far.

    She's taken the burden off of me and my financee Lee. I was excited at first then I realized that I needed to plan a wedding. The girls on here were very supportive and helpful but I decided to hire a consultant to guide me through the process. I emailed a few consultants but we meshed well with Natashia.. She's very down to earth and she's keeping me GROUNDED!!  Us hiring a consultant relieves Lee from doing 'girly' stuff. lol lol  We are trying to figure out how we are going to sell our homes in this market. merge in one or buy a new house. Soooo, we have other things to think about..

    Check her out or check out an experienced consultant..  Her number is 832.366.4569. The last time we met, she was offering a 'day of' special for May, June and July..

    You should really get with Hannahs Wedding planning services, you can get everything you need from one spot, she makes beautiful FRESH flower arrangements and will be there planning with you every step of the way, My wedding is March 12, 2011 and I have hired her and her company she is GREAT.  Look her up at Hannahaweddingplanningandevents.com.  You can get all types of linen, flowers etc. Her Name is Judth Castillo(Judy).  CONGRATS!;)Smile

    Congratulations on your engagement!

    You're definitely on track already with the planning with setting your budget. Right now before you book anything, I would just collect a lot of information on basic pricing for venues, florists, photographers, officiant, dj/music, etc. The Knot's budget estimator is a good tool to start with just to price compare and see all the things you might or might not need. Don't forget to factor in service charges and taxes when doing your estimates.

    After you've collected all of this information, sit down with your fiancee and maybe pick the top 3 things that you guys both find the most important in the wedding. For me, it was venue, photographer and ambiance (music and lighting), so this is where we decided to go a little over budget. Everything else, we are DIY or cutting out completely.

    Congrats !  Hope I can be of some help with vendor suggestions, ideas:

    I'm getting married in Sept and having 100 guests and we booked a venue for $5,500 for a Saturday that includes bartender service (we can provide the liquor), food, ceremony and reception decor (having both at same venue), linens, chair sashes, set up and break down. Our cake is by Heaven's Cake for $550 (3 tiers plus 1 dummy tier). Dj Super Mario is $525. Our photographer/videographer package is $1400 (photomundo1.com), my dress was $400 at Perfect Bridal (ordered online, received in 2 weeks), doing our own invitations, wedding favors: lotto ticket (http://www.blissweddingsmarket.com/brideideas/glassine_lottery.htm) idea and candle favors, ordered 100 online, received in 3 weeks in 2 boxes, carefully wrapped (http://www.weddingfavordiscount.com/Candle-Wedding-Favors-s/18.htm). Will be ordering my bouqet from Randalls, a friend got hers there and looked so pretty. I had the maid of honor's bouqet made at Michaels for $21. Still working on transportation for the wedding, would like to rent a black SUV and have florist decorate for us.
