Snarky Brides

Another annoying WR question

Well, no one really answered about a retro ish style bridal shower so now I'm wondering about games.

I know most of you hate games but we talked about doing maybe1 or 2. Have there been any you enjoyed?

Re: Another annoying WR question

  • I always liked the kitchen timer game.  Set a timer for 3-4 min, when it goes off whoevers gift you are opening gets a prize.  I like it because it makes the boring gift opening go faster.  I am doing it at my shower.

I dont like bingo or look in purses games.

  • I missed your other question. Are you looking for decoration or gift ideas for a retro-style party?
    image
  • Decoration ish? The wedding is at cool, retro hotel (http://hotelvalleyho.com) and the bridal shower will be at this place: http://www.livingroomwinebar.com/

I thought it'd be cute to have invites that were kind of retro or maybe had those funny 50's housewives jokes on them (know what I'm talking about?)

I think if you do a kind of 50s arty motif on the invites (like the glasses on the website for the shower location, very grapic) and then let the location speak for itself without lots of decoration. I think it looks great.
  • When I think 50s I think the pink/blue color combo. I also think hat boxes, type writers.

Maybe a fun game would be to get one of those books about being a proper housewife, and create trivia questions.
    A good wife:
    A) rubs her husbands feet nightly
    B) is never seen without makeup
    C) never says no to sex
Winner could get an apron and  recipe book?

    image
  • Nebb- yea, I wouldn't decorate the place much, just maybe place cards or something?

  • Name that 50s sitcom?

  • Rox- my girls got my invites at storkie.com

They are the first ones under shower invites.  "Hula bride" or whatever.  I love them and they have cute stuff.  You should check them out.

You can also customize the brides hair color etc.

  • Jas- I was thinking of printing out this article from Good Housekeeping in the 50's about what makes a good wife. Hilarious.

Also, do people ever do something where they like write notes on a happy marriage or whatever? Like tips to a long happy marriage? Am I making this up? Is that stupid?
  • I've heard of it at wedding, but it could be fun at a shower too. Maybe you could write them anonymously and the bride could read them? They could be a mixture of serious and fun. Or you could add "In bed" like you would with a fortune cookie.

    Is this for T's sister?

  • Oh kind of like these

  • Ricks- Yes! Those. I was thinking I could buy those postcards and people could write stuff on them? haha
  • I like that idea Roxy!

  • I like the post card idea.

  • I can't find them though

  • I had the advice thing at my shower, it was nice. My mom, sister and grandma cried when they read theirs Undecided. I had one big shower with both families and it was nice to hear advice from Scott's mom and aunts too.

I love the idea of incorporating the 50's good wife things.

What about these postcards?  I love Anne Taintor stuff.  http://www.amazon.com/Another-Day-Paradise-Postcards-Taintor/dp/0811844447

ETA: I've actually never been to a bridal shower so I'm totally useless on the games.
  • Those are all awesome! Thank you!
Its funny, I met up with her tonight and she mentioned the good housekeeping article and having a retro theme. I guess we're on the right track :)
  • I'm interested to see thoughts. I want to throw my sister a kind of vintage-y feeling shower, achieved mainly through rich fabrics and lace and pearls. WHo knows if I'll hit the mark.
