Dress shopping by yourself?

Has anyone ever gone dress shopping by themselves? I heard that the bridal center is closing and all there dresses are 50%-80% off! And none of my BM's can go! So I was thinking of going alone? Good idea? or bad idea?

I went by myself the first time.  I really enjoyed it.  I found a dress I loved, but didn't end up buying it until I had my mom come with me for a second opinion.

I went alone the first/only time and found a dress I loved.   It was really nice to do it at my speed and when I was free without having to coordinate several schedules.    Several people have seen it since then.

If I would have gone alone my first time I may have not purchased a dress that was more than I wanted to spend!! I love it but I thought it was more than I had planned on spending and my FMIL and BM talked me into it....

So it may be a good idea to go once on your own (since no one can go with that day anyways) and when you find one or a few dresses you love then bring people in and show it off! :)

I took my best friend (along with her 3 month old son) the first time I tried on dresses. It was fantastic because it was like I was alone until I would ask her a question. She has a way of knowing me better than I know myself at times but the intimate expereince is one that I would NEVER give up! Go by yourself and enjoy it. I know that all I kept thinking about was how I was going to feel on my wedding day with my FI. It was really exciting!

I did all of my shopping alone except for the last place I went to with my mom, to make her feel included in something.  I went to 7 stores myself, and would highly suggest it.  My MOH is in CA and the other BM couldn't take off work during the week, which is when most of my appointments were.  I had the salespeople who were helping me take pictures of me in the dresses I was considering, so I could see them in photos and email to people for their input before I made my choice.  In the end, I ended up also getting a dress that was more than I wanted to pay (I guess I won that argument with my mom about who would pay for it - unfortunately), but it was clearly the best, most "me" dress out there.  The final decision was all mine.  Had my mom had her way, I'd be in a poofy crinoline skirt looking like a Disney princess, which is really not my style.

I'd definitely do it again exactly the same way.  In the end, the only opinion that matters is your own.

I wanted to go by myself the 1st time but took my Mom along because I knew I wanted her opinion anyways. It went well and the 2nd dress was the winner. IMO the fewer the ppl the better. I wouldn't let them pressure into purchasing any dress the 1st time but def. get an idea of styles and colors you like.

The first time I went I only brought my mom & FMIL.  I knew I wanted their opionins, (well mostly just my mom's, becuase she know's me & my style much better), but wanted to included my FMIL as she had all boys & I wanted her to be able to experiance that with me.  The second time I brought my sister in-law, who is also a BM, and my mom.  At this point I had narrowed it down to 2 dresses & had a pretty good idea of the one I wanted.  That day I picked out my dress & the next time I went it was with all the BM to try on/pick out their dresses, & I just showed them what I picked out.  I liked how it all worked out, but I can see how it would be fun to go by yourself.  I say go for it!  From what all the other ladies are saying, it works out great!  = )

I went by myself and am glad I did. I wouldn't want 5 different opinions coming at once, plus ultimately I'm wearing the dress- they're not.

My parents came with me the 2nd time after the consultant who helped me the first time let me know that the dress that was my favorite ended up being clearanced out at $100, and couldn't pass that up!

I never went by myself, but I don't think that there is anything wrong with it. I wouldn't buy until I had a second opinion, though.

The first time I went with a good friend (my PA for the wedding) and it was a 50% off sale.  I felt a bit pressured because of the great deals and I walked out of there with a dress in hand.
Fast forward about 6 months later....I decided I wanted a different dress.  I went shopping by myself to gather more info about styles, etc. and LOVED it - so much freedom without the pressure of other's opinions.  Then I went with my mom on a separate trip and found/purchased THE dress - the experience of having her there for that moment was such a great thing - I wouldn't trade it for the world!

Thanks everyone! I just got home, I did go by myself... and bought a dress!!!!! I went my first time with my mom, maid of honor, and my cousin, and they all loved the dress, so I went again today and tried on new ones, and then tried on "the one" and I couldn't resist! Every dress compared to it! Thanks again, it really was a good experience!

Congrats on finding the dress! That's cool you went by yourself, now you know it's really the dress for YOU and not for the rest of the people there with you
