Have you talked to his family about this idea? I feel like in a lot of the middle eastern cultures, to do this would be really really out of line and no matter how much love or respect there is, it could cause huge rifts between you and his family, if not his immediate family, extended families or others of that cultural background. Or it could cause  his family to be looked down upon in thier cultural community. If you have the utmost respect for his family I would strongly suggest you have a discussion with his parents about what effects this will have both on his and your relationships with his family and if they will lose respect in thier community before you act on this.

Good point but his immediate family had talked about changing their name at one point as well.  They understand and they don't have a problem with it. Other memebers of his extended family have already changed their surnames too.

Your comment definitely brings into question where the line is drawn about who a bride has to take into consideration when making the name change decision.
