Bridal Shower Gifts?

Hi ladies!

My MOH mentioned to me that I should register for gifts in order to receive gifts at the Bridal Shower. See, our registry is a honeymoon fund where guests can buy us individual things that go towards our honeymoon (couples massage, dinner, etc). We did register at Macy's; however, I feel that the prices are very expensive and I rather have guests purchase from our honeyfund. Also, I feel embarrassed requesting guests to buy such high price items. With that being said, what/where do I register in order to receive presents at the Bridal Shower? I'm just confused.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Re: Bridal Shower Gifts?

  • Showers are for actual, phsyical gifts.  So your options are:  1) Register for gifts in a variety of price points at one or two stores so guests know what you want, 2) Don't register, and accept the fact that you might get a chilli-pepper tea cozy from Aunt Susan, or 3) Decline showers.

Honeymoon registries are widely considered to be inappropriate.  Your guests already know that money makes a good gift, and if they want to give you money then they will write you a check.  Not to mention that most "honeymoon registry" websites take a cut of the gift money in administration fees and don't actually give you the dinner or massage or whatever it is your guests think they are giving you...instead they just cut you a check for the ammount of money minus the fee.

  • Thank you for the reply. While I know that honeymoon registries are very unorthodox, it is preferred. Nonetheless, I provided guests with both options even though I think the Macy's registry is extremely overpriced.

    Thanks again!

  • I agree with PP - I very much dislike HM registries.

It's ok to register for things like gadgets, kitchen towels, bakeware by the piece, etc.  You need a solid chunk of items in the 0-$25 range and then in the $25-$50 range to give people choices.  What have you registered for at Macy's that is so crazy-expensive?  Literally the only thing they sell that I can't bring myself to register for are their hotel collection sheets even though we'd love to get them because $300 for a set of sheets seems crazy.  But nothing else strikes me as unusually expensive there.

  • Just looked at my registry and I do have gifts in different price ranges, like you mentioned. The smaller items can be grouped and would still cost $25, the most. I guess it doesn't seem that bad.

    Thanks.

You prefer not to receive the full value of the gift your guests are giving you?

Oh, and honeymoon registries aren't unorthodox....they are tacky and rude.  Your guests won't tell you that though......that's why we are.  But feel free to be tacky and rude.....it always makes for good talk behind ones back.

You <em>should</em> feel embarrassed asking your guests for cash.  Like it or not, thats essentially what your doing by having a HR.

</div><div><div>I would be more embarrassed asking my guests for money, which is why HM registries are considered inappropriate.  They are also considered deceitful because as I am sure you already know your guests are not buying you an actual massage or dinner thru the HR registry, right?  You get a check from the registry, minus fees.  </div><div>

  • I'm going to bypass the honeymoon registry issue and just say that, regardless, guests like to bring gifts to showers. No one is going to bring cash, or redeem anything on your honeyfund. Unless you want wonky gifts you will have to attempt to return to many different stores, register somewhere in a variety of price ranges, and at least if you don't want them, you know where to return them for store credit.
