QOTD - 2/6

What were your favorite commercials of the superbowl?  If you didn't watch, did you hear about any good ones?

Also, what did you think of the half time show?

I was disappointed with the halftime show. Madonna is such a staple of my childhood, but there was nothing special there. In general, it has become such an overproduction where the talent level is secondary, if that.

  • I thought the half time show was decent, I like Madonna's older stuff so I'm glad that's what she did.

I liked the M&M commercial and probably a couple of others that I can't think of right now.  Honestly for some reason I just love the M&M commercials. :)
  • I really liked the M&M commercial and the Chrysler commercial with Clint Eastwood. I wasn't crazy about the halftime show, but Like a Prayer is my favorite Madonna song, so that redeemed things a little bit for me. I'm not a Nicki Manaj fan and I had no idea who M.I.A. is.

Same. Like a Prayer is my absolute favorite so I was really happy she sang that! I enjoyed the halftime show! Her dancing was a little questionable, but Madonna is always like that.  Did anyone else notice M.I.A. give the camera the middle finger? My parents didn't see it but I did!

As for commercials, I liked the Doritos commercial.  I was underwhelmed with the commercials this year. Seemed like it was the same companies over and over, there wasn't much variety

  • There was a few commercials I really liked - the talking baby always has me laughing. The doritos one with the baby, grandmother, & older brother made me chuckle too. There were a few more but I can't remember them right now.

The halftime show was ok. I liked it when she sang her older stuff but it wasn't anything really "special" for me.

  • I loved the M&M commercial and the CR-V Ferris Bueller one too.  I thought that half time show was pretty good considering Madonna is in her 50's!  I have definitely seen worse.

  • I liked the doritos commercial, the chrysler commercial with Clint Eastwood, and the M&M commercials best.  I also thought the one with Betty White was good.

As for the halftime show, I was not impressed.  I honestly expected more from Madonna herself with what she was doing.

  • Commercials: 1. Betty White 2. M&M's 3. Ferris Bueller, especially the extended one you can find online. Overall, there were too many TV show commercials.

Halftime show was way better than I thought it was going to be, but my expectations were pretty low. Except I was disappointed that Twitter lied to me and Madonna didn't sing "Like a Surgeon".

  • I *LOVED* the Coca-Cola ads. And Doritos were funny. Otherwise, they were dumb.
I thought the halftime show was bad. Sounded pre-recorded so not Madonna.
    Whatever.
The best halftime show I ever saw(and remember) was Prince.

  • I didn't think Madonna was bad, but all the men in the house hated it. It really bothers me that the MIA chick flipped the bird. I don't think I can deal with 5 more years of washed up rock stars that peaked before I was born. I also thought that Vogue was too long, should have gotten another song in there. I loved the Ferris CR-V, the kid peeing in the pool, and the Drew Breeze "my sons a kicker" commercials.

Madonna's moves were gross and I was not impressed. Her workout scene with LMFAO was really awkward. I didn't like her stupid World Peace thing at the end either. I wasn't super impressed with commercials either. I liked the Teleflora one and the VW one
  • The halftime show was alright.  It seems like they've really turned into more of a "How can we show off the latest and greatest in showy technologies" rather than recognizing talent.

The commercials were so dull this year, though!  Nothing special at all, and most of them we'd seen before anyway.  The Jerry Seinfeld commercial has been playing in front of almost every Youtube video for the last few weeks, and almost all of them were released online BEFORE the Superbowl.  So much for keeping it exciting for people who don't actually care about football.

  • I thought the half time show was horrible. It looked like they threw it together at the last minute. It looked like a rehearsal, not something you do for the superbowl, which is a huge honor..... I was not impressed. I did like the end though.

I don't really have a favorite commercial. The M&M one was funny.

  • My favorite was The Voice/Betty White because I'm a sucker for anything Betty. The half time show was Meh. I love Nicky Minaj but LMFAO? You have to be kidding me. And M.I.a. Flipping the camera off is pretty unsurprising, I'm amazed she didn't rip off her clothes to reveal a giant body painted sign calling for the UN to recognize the Tamil Tigers as a free nation.

I think she did well in light of what super bowl half time shows have become.  I don't know the other artists except Cee-Lo (nor do I care to), but I think it probably appealed to younger kids because of them.  I think it's a shame there was so much dancing that she couldn't actually sing her songs, though.  I guess the spectacle was more important than actually singing?

Prince's half time show a few years ago was the best I can remember.  He played and sang his performance...in the rain, whith a marching band.  He still managed a little controversy, too, but didn't really offend (IMO).  I loved that one.
  • I think LMFAO should've done the whole show. They're great performers and super popular

Same here. I asked FSIL who that girl was and she goes "its nobody they just needed symmetry" haha I knew she had to be someone tho.

as for Madonna, there were some awkward moves in there, she almost fell, and I could have done without her new song but overall, it was alright.

and my commerical of choice was definitely David Beckham's!! ooohhh la la =)

  • I liked the Acura, Honda & doritos commericals.  The rest were not all that great.  The half time show was ok.   I was impressed by the graphics they did on the field. It was probably projectors etc.  I thought it looked cool.  It wasn't super awesome, but really what else can you do, pretty much everything has been done for half time shows in the past.  I am glad she did like a prayer, that is my favorite too.

  • I thought the halftime show was actaully really good. It did sound pre-recorded, but you can't really expect much else at this point...

I thought she kept it classy (not a lot of skin showing, no real vulgar dance moves...) And I really liked the last song with the whole choir backing her up. Way cool!! And the lights and break dancing were pretty sweet!! I give it 2 thumbs up :)

I actually didn't even watch commercials. I was mostly getting more food or talking with friends during them :)

  • It was not the proper forum to push an agenda like that. I hate when people do that. I hated the Detroit commercial too. If they'd improve their product they'd sell more. Easy as that

  • I agree with doeie that it looked unrehearsed.  She sounded great but pretty sure it was a recording.  There were times when her lips didn't match the music.  I didn't love it nor did I hate it.  It was a halftime show...nothing exciting there.

Doritos had some great commercials.  My all time fav was the Bud Light commercial with the rescue dog WeGo.  It was funny and also promoted rescuing pets.

...World peace isn't really an agenda.  It's not like she finished with a message like "ALLOW GAY MARRIAGE" or "END ABORTION" or "ROMNEY/OBAMA 2012."

It's not even really an anti-war sentiment, because regardless of how you feel as an individual on the issue, the ultimate goal of war is to create peace, albeit within the constraints of the warring nations.

Honstly I think world peace is about as universally inoffensive as you can get...

  • I didn't like the Detroit/Clint commercial either- the 9/11 imagery, the digs at occupy wall street, etc. I thought it was tasteless. I understand the sentiment but tying it to selling cars? Ick. And the 'world peace' thing just came out of nowhere. It's a good sentiment but after being carried in by slaves/centurions, then a weird cheerleading segment...annnnd let's emblazon the field with world peace. It just felt tacked on rather than part of the whole performance.

See now, reasoning like this I can understand and respect. Simply calling something stupid and moving on isn't something I can understand.
