How often do you go out to eat

Re: How often do you go out to eat

• Fast food, maybe once or twice a week.
image
• We usually get out for a nice-ish dinner once a month, but Friday's is usually I-don't-want-to-cook night, so we get pizza or something like that.

When we lived in our last apartment, we ate out a lot more, and spent way more money doing it.  We lived right downtown in the city I work in, and were behind/beside 3 amazing restaurants, with many more within stumbling distance.  While I miss living there for the amazing food, I don't miss the garbage and random bar patrons having sex outside my bedroom window.

• On pay-days- once every two weeks :)

• Maybe twice a week right now. It's less when I'm with FI.
• yes, how much we eat out also has to do with

a) whether or not I feel like cooking. FI doesn't cook much, mainly because I usually do.

b) the fact that I like food too much. Like way too much. I would probably eat sushi every day if I could.
• On average, once a week, and it's almost always to a Mexican restaurant. I have to cook healthy meals the rest of the week to balance that out.

• A few times a week. Most likely on Friday/Saturdays. That's how it was growing up. My mom didn't cook from Friday night until Sunday dinner (lunch). Sunday dinner was/is always a big nice meal. I like to make something nice on Sundays, and enough that we can have leftovers during the week.

Once or twice a week.  Although usually at least one of those times is to our local chinese restaurant because we can get an appetizer, an entree to share, and fried rice or soup (their portioning is HUGE) for under $20, and still have enough for leftovers.

Our other favorite dinner spot (as much as I'm shamed to admit it) is Elephant Bar, although we have been ordering less food and sticking to cheaper items lately to keep the bill under $30-35.

The one huge bummer about moving a few years ago from Oakland (which is full of great restaurants) to an outlying suburb (which just has the typical chain restaurants at the malls and the hole-in-the wall local spots) is that we have very little selection in quality dining.  But I guess it's ok because if we had access to more good restaurants, we'd probably blow way more cash on eating out.  :)
As a couple? Usually Saturday and Sunday night. They're the only evenings we have to spend together. It may be simply Red Robin or something a little more pricey (but that isn't often). I'll usually get something on the way home once a week, but cook or make sandwiches/have cereal the rest of the week. He takes stuff to work, or hits up the gas station/vending machine/Taco Bell.

omg I LOVE Red Robin. I used to go in NC all the time when I was visiting my sister. One of happiest days of my life was when Red Robin came to Foxboro stadium in MA, right next to my hometown.
• I live in one of the most restaurantiest cities in the country. It is really tempting to go out to eat a lot.

• We don't have Red Robin here :(
See, I don't find the price difference THAT significant. I guess I am fooling myself when I say it doesn't add up but I look at it this way --- /> If we go to the grocery store and spend $200.00 that food is gone in a week. We spend probably $350.00 a week in going out to eat (sometimes more sometimes less). I guess I just find that extra $150.00 to be worth not stressing over cooking, cleaning, the pets interrupting, or timing dinner into our very precarious schedules.
Posted by MeaghanandMichael
See, for us it's a huge difference.  We can go out to eat and spend $30-$40 on dinner for just the two of us and it will feed us once, maybe twice.  However, I can go to the store and spend $20 to make us the same dinner, with enough leftovers for 2 days.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. You need to come visit me.  I'll bring you to Red Robin and show you a ton of other cool stuff.  Just don't come in the next few months because it's going to be cold as hell.

• I like to go to Mexican restaurants and fill up on chips and salsa and then take the majority of my meal home. It usually makes for another one or two meals. And hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants are pretty cheap.

• I agree with MM, food prices have become so insane, to me it comes up even some of the time. Also, I remember when I didn't have a dishwasher or A/C...  it was totally worth that extra money and we went out a lot more than we do now.

• We usually go out to eat or get take out 2 or 3 times a week these days.  That's what happens when you remodel your kitchen.  I can't wait to be able to cook a decent meal again.  Sigh.

That'd be awesome. We could go to NOLA!

• Not very often for dinner, usually just special occasions or if we have family or friends visiting.  Maybe once a month for lunch (DH works 1 block down the street).  We're trying to eat better and save money, and DH isn't really a big restaurant guy.

Well I think you hit one of the biggest issues I have. I HATE reheated food. Money saving fail on my part :(
• We used to eat out a lot because of our schedules but we have been trying to cut that down. Lately we have been making a lot of use of our grill since it still warm out.

We rarely eat out for lunch and most of the time it's because ppl are offering. I do sometimes see a difference money wise but like M&M said that difference isn't significant.
• I used to eat out every single day during lunch before we got engaged....now I'm watching my money and weight so I eat out on Fridays and bring my food to work instead....

I eat out for dinner on Saturday evenings.
• We're bad.....like 3-4 times a week.  I guess you could consider having family meals at my parents place eating out.....but I'm not counting that in the total number.

• Almost everyday! It is soooo sad but I HATE to cook especially when I get off of work. I usually want to just pick up something on the way home and be done with it. And yes I have kids. I try to cook a meal, at least, once a week but sometimes it just does not happen.

I used to feel bad but I had a teacher ask me "Do your kids eat everyday?" I said yes and she said that that is all that matters.

Case closed
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
In Response to Re: How often do you go out to eat : Yeah, we remodeled our ktichen so we could actually cook more often.  However, after eating out every meal for about 9 months, we got used to not having to grocery shop, cook, & clean up....so now we have a really fabulous kitchen that is used to make bacon & eggs on weekends...we eat virtually every dinner out...ironic, huh?!
Posted by jcbsjr
Oh no, I think FI would kill me if we didn't cook once this project is over.  There have been too many mental breakdowns since this project started last winter.  We have to cook! I keep telling myself that if we make it through this remodel, we can make it through anything.
