NWR Frustration (long-sorry)

I just need to vent and get this off my chest.

In October, I was let go from my job.  I was told that I was going to get unemployment and would be eligible for COBRA.  The COBRA paperwork was supposed to come right after my termination in mid-October.  They didn't send it until the END of October and I was out of town so I didn't get it until November.  To top that off, there was a mistake on the paperwork, and I didn't want to send anything in until I showed my mom, and asked my former employers about the mistake, so I didn't send the paperwork in until December. (COBRA gives you 60 days to turn in paperwork). I also made the first payment with that paperwork with a date of 12/6.  Fast forward to around Christmas time and that first check hasn't been cashed. I contact my former employer and they say that they've cashed it, okay, I haven't seen it come through.  I then get a letter stating 'thank you for your nov. payment, you owe dec. and jan. Um, okay, but I didn't have coverage until December, why do I have to pay?  Because the COBRA form says November 1st it is effective. Fine, so I paid those in early January, meantime the first check still hasn't gone through.  Fast forward to yesterday, I made my Feb. payment last week and I get a notification from my credit union to check my account, so I do...ALL FOUR CHECKS went through at the same time!!! I've been working so hard to build up my savings and this depleted it. I had to transfer money over from my savings.  I'm so frustrated!!! Yell I want to cut the cord with my former employer and something always comes up that I can't...

Sigh
Sorry for the length...

Oh wow, thats really rough. Sorry to hear about that :/ Ive been in similar situations as far as all checks being cashed at once and that sucks.

Sorry you have to deal with this.  Doesn't sound like fun at all.

I've had similar problems with past employers and COBRA as well. The first job I quit to take another position that I thought would be perfect for me. The owner of the very small company said he would pay for my COBRA. I made my first payment and he was supposed to reimburse me. I made the second payment...still waiting for the first reimbursement. Third payment comes and goes, still no money from the boss. Next thing I know all 3 payments came out at once! I ended up having to cancel it because it was SO expensive. I worked for the state so the coverage was amazing, but it was like $450 a month. I ended up quitting that bc the boss was a PIG and I got a job at Clear Channel Radio...3 years later I got let go...2 months after that, I got let go again! And neither time it was my fault :-) But....anytime you need to vent about it, feel free to contact me. I actually don't work now either. Haven't since June. http://www.crawfordwedding.com http://www.mandibaker.com
