tux question

I have a dilemma about what color shirts my fiance' and groomsmen should wear.
My dress is Oyster white and the girls are wearing amber/cooper gowns.  My fiance' is wearing a cream shirt to go with my gown,  and the girl at the tux store said that all the guys should wear cream so they don't look washed out if they are next to my gown.  Any suggestions???

    Anita,

My FI and his GM are all wearing cream (or offwhite) shirts. I think that would look better than him in cream and the groomsmen in stark white--you would definitely see the contrast!

What color vests are your GM wearing?

the groomsmen are waearing black vests and ties and my fiance is wearing cream vest and tie.  We couldn't match vests to the girls gowns.

I had an ivory dress, but I still had DH wear a white tie and vest.

All the men wore white shirts as well. The reasoning behind this is that an ivory gown has yards and yards of fabric to reflect its true color, but a shirt does not and the part of the shirt that shows is typically the part where it gets dirty, like the collar, cuffs, etc.

Of course, if you are wearing an ivory/off white gown, the theory is that the linens, men's shirts, etc, should all be ivory too, but I didn't follow that and it turned out just fine.

I would keep all the men in the same color shirt though, whatever shirt you decide.

I had heard also that ivory shirts on guys looked dirty or washed out, but our tux place showed us pics and I thought it looked fine. Our groomsmen are also in black vests as we couldnt match either. I think it'll look nice!

I have also been debating this, since my dress is a cream/ivory color.  What do you guys think about doing a white shirt on the groom with an ivory vest and tie?  Then all of the groomsmen in white shirts with black vests and ties.
Has anyone else had their groom in a white shirt with ivory vest and tie?  Do you have pics?
    Thanks!

I wouldn't mix up the ivory and white on the same person. If you do a white shirt, I think you should also do a white vest and tie.

I was about to post a VERY similar question- My dress is going to be diamond white (the company changed their mind about letting me change the color) and now I'm worried that the guys in white shirts, especially my fiance in a white vest and tie, will make me end up looking dirty or off-white. Ditto the flowergirl in white.

We also couldn't find vests to match the girls' eggplant dresses, so we have ordered black vests and black ties, but have also purchased eggplant ties from Macy's. When the tuxes come in, we can try the eggplant ties with the black vests and if they look good, go with that. Otherwise, we'll go with all black for plan B. You could try that.

I wouldn't mix the ivory and white, either. I think you'd see the contrast, which is what you are really trying to avoid.

Love it when people are posting about my exact worry of the day!!!

I've known lots of girls who wore diamond white or ivory gowns and had their FIs wear regular white shirts and it's never looked weird or off, IMO.  This was a big topic of discussion at the end of last summer, if I remember correctly, and a lot of the older knotties posted pictures in ivory gowns with white shirts and it still looked great!  I'm sure that whatever you decide will look fine and nobody will notice either way!
