All out of what looked delicious.

We had our meeting with the caterer the other day.  We decided we like to offer our guests mediterranean chicken or lasagna.  Caterer thought it would be an issue as they wouldn't know who wanted what.  Whatever, we only have 40 people, I didn't think it would be difficult to ask who wanted what.  So the caterer suggested we go buffet style.  Now here is where I am worried:  What if too many people wanted one over other and somebody didn't get what they wanted?   Should I just have only the plated chicken meal?  Because I would be ticked if I didn't get the chicken and I don't want anybody looking at others plates with sad faces.   And no, nobody is vegetarian or have special diets so that is not an issue.

  • On your response card, make a space for people to respond that they want chicken or lasagna.  If you want to do a plated dinner, make the escort cards different colors by meal choice.

  • How will they know who wants what?  Seriously?  Has your caterer not done alot of weddings because lots of brides offer more than 1 main course option at their weddings and they don't seem to have this problem of keeping who wants what straight.  This should not be this difficult for your caterer to figure out.

Every wedding I've been to within the last year were plated and offered a minimum of two options, sometimes three, and I have yet to fill out what I wanted on my RSVP card (and they were all 50-100 people eating).  I think your caterer should be able to handle this.  Also, if it's served buffet, some people will take a some of each, so I hope your caterer will take into account that too and not just have 20 servings of each.
  • I think you should go with a different catering company.

If you are doing a buffet your caterer should supply enough food so that everyone can have some of each offering.  You are only having about 40 guests and it is kind of scary that your caterer is unsure how to handle this situation.

  • It is strange to me that this would be an issue for your caterer. If you put the choices on your reponse card, then you have a different symbol (or a different color or something) for the dinner option on each place card.
