We have no idea what our first dance song should be! I tentatively suggested Tim McGraw's version of "When The Stars Go Blue" but FI said that song annoys him. Hehe. Also, I've listened to the words and can't quite put my finger on the song's meaning. Any thoughts?

We both love Jack Johnson so we may end up choosing one of his song. Just not "Banana Pancakes". So played out!

I know this might sound corny and overplayed, but ever since I was a little girl I've wanted my first dance to be "At Last". I've been dating my fiance for 5 and a half years, so by June 2013 it really will feel like it's happening at last! I have no idea what my father/daughter dance will be though.

We want something a little untraditional. The other night we talked about possibly Parachute by Train - its a really cool ballad on their most recent cd but not played on the radio, unfortunately! Since FI used to DJ, he doesn't want anything cliche because he's heard it all before.

These are the Moments- Edwin McCain We were driving in the car a while back and this song came on the radio, we both basically said "This is a perfect first dance song" at the same time.

@emmy: An upbeat song (that's newer and not overused) and could be perfect for a first dance is ray lamontagne's 'you are the best thing'. Such a great song in general

It won't be our first dance song, but we will def include it during the dancing!

haha, I am in the same boat! I asked because I was curious, I am surprised that so many people have their song picked out already, which is awesome! I know our first dance song will definitely be a country song, just not sure which one yet

My younger sister is getting married this fall, and she asked us right away what our first dance song was going to be, and what colors we were going to use, so picking a song was actually the first wedding-related decision we made. We're going with "Heavenly Day" by Patty Griffin...it fits in with a late afternoon, outdoor wedding so well!!

We really want to do Bless the Broken Road by rascal flatts - but I would also like to do something more upbeat, I'm thinking possibly Lucky by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz but we also want to sing something together (since that is how we met, in choir in college) so we might sing Lucky and still do bless the broken road, or possibly something by Josh Groban... still up in the air!

I have two songs that I really love that are my top contenders.

#1 is Regina Spektor's cover of Real Love by John Lennon. Its seriously amazeballs. It makes me want to cry and smile and get all googly every time I listen to it. The only thing I'm concerned about with this song is it doesnt feel very danceable. Its really slow and really soft and I wanted something a little bit more up beat.

#2 Take Care by Beach House. This song is so sweet. I love the lyrics. They're totally heartwrenching, and I also put this song on a mix I made for my fiance when we first met. Totally danceable, and cute.

I think it could be appropriate as a wedding song? To me it says that someone uses dancing to escape when they're feeling down and it does have the line "where do you go? I'll follow you" to suggest two people escaping away together.

Anyhow.. if you really love the song, but FI finds it annoying - there are three other versions you could check out. Maybe he'll like one better?:

We're also using Bless the Broken Road. That's our song, and it definitely fits well. Yes, it's probably overplayed, but I'm in love with that song. We went to their concert last summer when they were in St. Louis and danced together when they played it. One of my favorite moments with him.

We're going with "Faithfully" by Journey. FI and I are huge classic rock fans. Also he currently works on the road. We typically go one to three months without seeing each other, so this song fits our relationship perfectly.
