Can you recommend where to buy my dress?

Hi ladies,

Can anyone recommend a dress shop in the Boston area?  I'm looking for someplace with a large selection, not overly pricey (<$2,000), and that also carries larger sizes.  I've struck out thus far and thought perhaps someone could recommend a place?

  Thanks!

Re: Can you recommend where to buy my dress?

  • I got my dress at a brides against breast cancer event.  They are coming back to boston again(waltham) jan 18-20.  I got my dress and veil plus tax for only 400....when the dress alone was 1600+

My other suggestion would be davids bridal
  • I just got my dress at precious memories in Malden. Great experience
  • Have you tried Vows in Watertown yet?  You can actually look at all of their stock online.  Personally, I got my dress at Madeleine's Daughter in Portsmouth, NH, but my first stop was Vows.
  • Ditto Vows in Watertown.  That was my 3rd stop and where I found my dress.

    Good luck!

  • I also went to madelines Daughter.  However, marry and tux in nashua NH carries a TON of plus size gowns.  I went there first and all their dresses were so pretty.

  • I got my dress at the Bridal Secret in Quincy. Judy is FABULOUS and has tons of dresses in all sizes. I also had a great experience at Precious Memories in Malden as well!

  • I purchased mine at Bridal and Gift in North Attleboro.  It's a small shop but they have a great selection of dresses and great customer service - not pushy at all.  I got my dress and veil for under $1200.
  • Thanks ladies for the great suggestions, this is tremendously helpful!
  • Vows in Watertown, MA affordable and amazing dresses.  Ask for Amelia, she is a personal friend and so sweet to work with.  She found my dress, it was a fraction of the price anywhere else on line.

The website doesn't do the place justice.  Check out their t.v. show I found the Gown, I think it is on TLC.
  • I live in Boston, but actually found my dress in RI at Wishing Well in East Providence. I needed a larger size as well, but Pam at Wishing Well was really great about having a large variety of styles, and even got me into the size 10 sample size so I could really see my dress on me. My mom and I had both flagged my dress as a "must see" from the magazine, and it was the first dress I tried on. I then made us keep a bunch of other appointments just to be sure though!

We also had good luck at Botticelli, the Alfred Angelo in Dedham, Party Dress Express in Fall River, and Bridal by Meredith in North Andover. I heard good things about Precious Memories in Malden, but ended up only looking at bridesmaid dresses there. I also heard good things about Pure Bliss in Newburyport, but I had already found my dress so we canceled the appointment, though my girls did get their bridesmaid dresses there, and they were great. I was not pleased with Bella Sera in Danvers (not many plus size samples at all, and forced me to do the excruciating "just hold the dress up to you"--interesting since their sample of my dress was actually a size larger than the one I tried on at Wishing Well), and I was not a fan of Marry & Tux. The girl did not really listen to me regarding what I liked, and I felt like I kept ending up trying on "fat girl" dresses. Just my experience though...
  • I can second LB&SF on New York Lace in Taunton. I worked with Fastina there and she put me in the dress of my dreams. Funny thing was - when she pulled it and I saw it on the hanger, I immediately told her no. She said to just try it, and I loved it when I put it on. I wasn't ready to purchase after my first visit, so she booked me an follow-up appointment, during a trunk show, and made sure she could help me at that time too. I got a great deal and the dress :)

While Vows may get you a great deal, I really feel it was hit or miss there. I went with my mom and future MIL, and we had to sift through the racks to find stuff to try on. Once we were actually in the fitting room, the bridal attendent kept bringing me sample sizes I couldn't fit into (a size 4 wedding dress = a 00 size in street wear) and telling me to "just try to put it on". I felt like she didn't listen and no girl wants to be reminded that she's not a 00.

  • Marry and Tux in New Hampshire has a nice selection and you can see what some look like on manaquins....they also have a curvy (larger sizes) room full of selections.
