Really Creeped Out Right Now

So Saturday morning a lady went jogging and is missing.  If you Google "Sherry Arnold"  she's top news.  Scary stuff for our small towns.

Now today, a restaurant in the same town burnt to the ground.

I can't help but wonder if something is related and I'm creeped out.  UGH!

  • It's always creepy when bad things happen so close to home... try not to let it consume you!!

  • Oh my gosh, I read about her on Yahoo. It's so horrible. I haven't heard about the fire yet. Keep yourself safe for now, that is pretty scary. Keep a cell phone on you and let people know if you're going anywhere alone and where you'll be.
  • This is about 40 miles from us.  I keep my cell phone, and I have a stungun and pepper spray.

We are in the center of an oil boom.  So two towns are waaaay over capacity with people from all over the US.  The work is great, and so are many of the people.  There are a lot of wackos out here too, and I'm trying to get people to realize it very well could be a local who feels like they have the "outsiders" to cover it up.  It's so easy for everyone to jump to conclusions that it's someone who "doesn't belong here" who abducted the woman.

  • That's so scary!  Like DeadUtopia said, keep safe and make sure that you tell people when you're going out alone.  We had a rash of crimes around us right before Christmas.  One of the guys we played softball with had his house broken into and his wife and two daughters held at gun point while the guys were rummaging through their stuff.  All I can say is that I was glad to have a protective dog at that point.  Stay safe.

  • Yikes Sarah!  When I lived in CA my house was robbed while I was at work.  The person had enough time to go through EVERY cupboard and drawer in my house.  They knew my schedule.  After that I got an alarm, and I'm trying to convince FI we need one in our new house as soon as it's done being built.  He thinks I'm crazy because this is NE Montana and we're fine.  I'm wondering if he'll be thinking maybe I'm not so crazy after all.

I live a stone's throw from Detroit, and we're hearing about horrible crimes all the time, sadly you become desensitized to it

So true, I grew up 10 minutes out of Boston, and lived in Somerville, MA, with MS13 gangs and what not.  I think I'm just so used to hearing bad things all the time that nothing phases me anymore.

I moved to a small quiet town in NH a few years ago, and a man beat a random woman 1/2 to death around the corner from me.  It's so crazy but you just don't think about it.
  • That's just it, I mean I'm not in Detroit, but we are close enough there are city buses that travel back and forth between the two, so its pretty much all one city...
  • That's how I was when I lived in CA.  I went to school in Fresno and it was a huge area.  People were missing all the time, gangs, shootings, etc- seemed like normal.  But something like this happens here and it just ruffles the whole town.  The people here aren't used to much crime.  I've gotten used to the quiet and everyone knowing everyone.  Something happens and it's BIG news

  • I know how you feel. I live about 15 miles outside of Philly so I hear about shootings/murders/etc on a daily basis. But every so often it creeps up into the suburbs and I get a little panicky. Just a few months ago there was a man who shot and killed a few family members and then led police on a wild manhunt, and it was literally 5 minutes up the street from me. I had to go to work and couldn't get out of my neighborhood. It made national news, it was wild.
