Dj pricing? Friends friend is a dj....

Ok so one of my BM's husband is really good friends with a DJ and before I started looking for a DJ she told me i should talk to him. So just now we got in contact with each other and for the ceremony til the end of the reception around  10 would be about $1,000. I actually didnt check into any other DJ's is this a good price?

I told her and she told her husband he basically he said ill talk to him and get him lower. But i feel like if he does that and its alrady a good deal I look like an A$$. :( What should i do?

It depends on who you go with.  I've found that $1000 is on the high end, but there are more expensive DJs out there.  We paid about $900 last summer for Kim from No Macarena.

That's not bad if he is doing the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The thing I'd be worried about is hiring somebody because he is a friend of a friend. If he sucks and ruins your wedding will you able to forgive your BM for recommending him?

the DJ may get annoyed that BM is asking him to lower the price. FI is a DJ and will give lower prices to friends, but when it is HIS friend not a friend of a friend because then he wouldn't be making any money if he gave every one a discounted price.

How many hours total from your ceremony to the end of the reception?

I also agree with angel about hiring a friend of a friend. Have you seen him DJ before?

I wouldn't hire someone without doing research. I have a friend that is a DJ but I have never seen him perform so I didn't want to take any chances. I didn't want to hire him and have him be completely not my style.

Not to be all nosey, but what is the company's name?  Perhaps someone on here has used him and can give you some insight as to whether or not he is good.

I think $1000 is not a half bad price, but I do have a couple concerns.. one, are you getting an MC and a DJ for this price or just a DJ?  Are you getting a lighting package?  Is he the kind of MC that is very involved or is he just there to spin some CDs?

If you want just a DJ to spin records and not an MC or lighting, I highly reccommend Schaffer Sound.  Their prices are around $700 something.

JEEZ! I didn't know how good of a deal I was getting until I read all this!

FI and I went with a family friend (on his side) who did a FANTASTIC job at FSIL's wedding. He's only charging us $600. And that's for the whole she-bang! Ceremony, cocktail, reception and he's acting as the MC.

If you want a recomendation I'll be glad to pass on information - I'd do it right here and now, but I don't have the exact info with me, FI was in charge of that one.

I agree that if he's doing the ceremony and MC, it's a good deal.  I'm paying a little under that but it's for the reception.  The ceremony music is a whole other story.

That's great for you, Future.  What a great deal you got!

This may sound very dumb, but what is the difference between a dj and a mc? I guess I don't get why you would need two separate people.
