I need some ideas for WP gifts!

Okay so I am having glasses made (either wine or pilsners depending on what they drink) with their names and they say groomsmen, Maid of Honor, etc, etc, etc, the date of our wedding.

Before you flame me, this isn't the only thing I want to get them (and I'm not even really counting it toward their gifts).  Looking for good ideas.  Should they all be the same or similar?  Prices should be the same I'm sure, but do I have to get them all the same gifts (they are different women afterall).  Is jewelry okay as long as it doesn't have to be worn in the wedding?

  • I asked the same question and got this answer...anything related to your wedding is NOT a gift. Its completely okay to give them all different things. It should be something you would get that person for their birthday or Christmas. Gift cards are always good.

  • I've always heard what Sierra said from other posters on here. We are getting mason jars for our wedding party with their name engraved, similar to what you are doing, but not it is not going to be part of their gifts.

The jewelry I personally don't have a problem with. When I was a BM in a friend's wedding she got us all custom earrings, a bracelet, and a ring to wear in the wedding and that was our gift. All of us loved the jewelry and we wear the pieces often...I never had a problem getting that as my gift even though it was worn in the wedding. Honestly, I would much rather have gotten that then other traditional "bridal party" gifts.

  • I would still skip the glasses. I know you say it's a gift, but honestly no on wants anything with your wedding date and BM on it. You're just going to waste your money.

They don't need to be at all similar. And as far as price, if you get something half off, go with the normal price.
  • The glasses are inexpensive and I have a friend who paints on glasses.  Most of my bridesmaids are wine drinkers and I talked with a few on ideas and they said they would like them.  My WP doesn't sugar coat anything either, that's just how they are.  So I was thinking maybe giving the glasses to use during the reception and having their gift afterward.  I have an engraved wine glass from my best friend from her wedding and I love it.  I guess it's a to each their own kind of thing?

  • if your girls are into them, do it.  A friend of mine did it at her wedding and I loved it at the wedding, we used them at the reception--but then it sat up on my shelf and collected dust for years afterwards when I finally goodwilled it last time I moved.  So it is a waste of money for the most part; but they may be the kind that will actually keep in the cabinet and use it now and then, then its worth it and a cute touch-- only you know your friends and what they do and do not like.

other than that, pick a gift they will enjoy as a real thank you.

What if you were not getting married and were just shopping for them for Christmas or their birthday? THAT's what you get them.

As for the glasses, if you really think they will like them, ok, but honestly, painted glasses remind me of all the puffy paint, personalized, etc  sorority sister stuff I saw in college. I think for a wedding they are kind of cheesy.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • What if I just put their names and no titles with some kind of design?  I was going to do gift cards in the glasses I think.  Also maybe some candy or something like that.  Thanks for all of the ideas ladies

  • I'm on a budget so I got my BM make up bags I saw on sale at Target. I am also getting them a pair of flat slippers to put on at the reception if they want to change out of their heels.
  • I had wine glasses personalized for my girls, and I also had bracelets engraved for them at Things Remembered.  The are really pretty and can be worn not only for the wedding but on a daily basis

  • Haha, I forgot I also got them makeup bags and got little emergency kit things to put in them

  • I was in a wedding in October, and my gift was a hoodie that said BRIDESMAID on the back, and on the front it was the name of the couple with their date. It is currently hiding somewhere in my parents basement. I would not use anything that was labeled with anything WR or even my name; but that is just me.

I am getting clutches for my girls. I found a seller on Etsy and she is making each one in a different material/pattern that I chose for each girl. I plan on putting some lip gloss, nail polish and other goodies inside as well.

I would just do the design.  I like glasses with designs - they're different and fun.  Putting their names on them takes it down a useful notch.  Putting their names plus your wedding date with Maid of Honor knocks it down to useless.  I think your heart is the right place, but personalizing is a bad idea.  A design sounds great, though!
  • The "exclusively wedding" catalog has great gifts for BM. Flip flops with their names, tote bags with their monograms or names, robes with monograms, beach or pool bags with their names, they also have amazing gifts for the guys, your father, mother, ring bearer and flower girl.

  • i LOVE the idea of the clutch - i was just looking at jewelry for them and didn't find anything I loved. The clutch is... clutch!
  • A few ideas:

    1. I would check into Yankee Candle.  They have personalizable candles.  You can order one per wedding party member, in whatever scent they like at home and which matches their home decor. You can have a custom phrase and photo put on them.  I'd do a phrase and a photo customized for each person.  For example "Sweet Peas for Jeanne" and a picture of you and Jeanne.  And sweet pea scented candle = her favorite flower.  If anyone has allergies they also come (I think?) unscented.

    2. I would consider presenting each of them with a bottle of nice wine or other alcohol to accompany the painted wine glass and as others have said DO NOT have anything about your wedding or with their name added to the design.  Back to the example, Jeanne's could have sweet peas and with it,  her favorite wine or whatever.

    3. How about treating them to various things they enjoy and would find relaxing.  A guy might want a movie pass booklet, another guy might want i-tunes gift card, whereas one lady might want a bookstore gift card while a second lady might want a mani-pedi.

    4. If you are looking to save money, how about offering to do something for them, that you can do that they need done. For example, put in an 'IOU 1 car wash and car detailing' for someone whose always got a messy car. For someone who never seems to have time to cook, make a few frozen casseroles in aluminum foil dispoable pans. etc.

    Good luck!

I think the wine glasses are a great idea, but I'm a little biased because I just bought my BM's hand painted wine glasses that are decorated to match each of their personalities (2 teacher ones, 1 beach one, and 1 party girl one).

What if you had the wine glasses decorated to match each of their personalities and put your wedding date real small on the foot of the glass (like how an artist might sign something, relatively inconspicuous, but still there)?

That's the worst! Where would you ever wear that? That was really a waste of money for the bride. I wouldn't even let my mom buy me a hoodie that had Mrs. [fiance's last name] and my own wedding date on it (though I think she's going to anyway later on; I'm terrible at making it clear I don't want things). I wouldn't even wear something with my own name and wedding date on it besides the wedding day.

Your gift sounds great! I would love to be one of your bridesmaids opening that gift. It's personalized and who doesn't love make-up?

I found a great site that you can customize jewelry. It's called 2-be-unique.com . On most items you can choose the length of the necklace and bracelets. You can also choose the crystal color and pearl colors. It is just so handy. You can really customize toward your wedding as well as the girls tastes.
  • I think you should have them all receive the same gift (different colours are fine). People can get jealous sometimes thinking someone's gift cost more or that someone else's gift is better than theirs.

I got awesome Longchamp bags for one party and each girl got a different colour. Also the bride gave us the option if we wanted monogrammed initials on it.

    Just an idea.
