Just Engaged!!! (Finally)

Okay, so my Fiance (it feels so good to write that) and I have been together for 6 years. I've been hinting to him for the past two that I'd like to get engaged, married, the whole shebang. He has been putting it off, but he finally asked!! It was so amazing and I never saw it coming.

So, now that I've gushed, I'm stuck. He actually bought my ring on Saturday, so we had to send it to get resized. We don't want to tell anyone until I get the ring back, so I have to keep it quiet until then. So, I've decided that I'll gush on here. My question is, is anyone or did anyone have to keep their engagement quiet for a while? Any tips on how to accomplish this?

    Its not so tough when you're not wearing a ring, so just enjoy the little pact between you and your FI.  Saturday will be here before you know it! :)

    Just don't tell anyone. It's not that hard, especially if you're not wearing a ring. 

    I really don't understand why you're keeping it a secret though. You're engaged whether or not the ring is in your possession, and don't worry, everyone will still gush over it a week from now even if they already know you're engaged.

    I am not going to lie, it was hard for me. I had the ring and it was my graduation night. I told my family and we were going to keep it quiet to our friends, at least until we got engagement photos in our local newspaper. I couldn't wait. I had the ring, I had a phone, I called everyone, posted photos on facebook, and we had an engagement party a month later! It is difficult especially with the ring, and I still gushed when I sent my ring back, (loose diamond) I just felt empty. :(
    He stole my heart, so I'm stealing his last name.

    We kept our quiet from the public for a short time.
    We announced it to the family the next day at FI's grandfather's rehearsal dinner for his wedding. LOL.
    Then we waited about a week until we told more people, the church and such.
    My best advice would be to just keep your mouth shut. Don't post it on FB until you announce it.That's awful for some people to find out that way.

    Congratulations!

    Just cause your ring is getting sized doesn't mean you can't announce the engagement, that's just silly.

    FI proposed on our cruise in another country I called my dad and texted the rest of my family. My dad did the actual "announcements" & then when we came home we were given a surprise engagement bbq (small gathering which was perfect) I had been waiting for 8 yrs there was no way I would keep that a secret!

    I agree with al of you. It wasn't worth keeping a secret just because I didn't have a ring. We spoke this afternoon and decided to tell everyone. So, we made the rounds told those who needed to hear it in person then made it facebook official.

    The main reason is because I'm a blabbermouth and I couldn't keep it to myself. Thanks for the support!

    We didn't put it on FB for the masses to see for about two months! We wanted to make sure that everybody in the family had adequate time for the news to get around so there weren't any hurt feelings.
    By then we had obviously told all of our close friends.

    We also waited for the news to kind of "sink in" with my FILs because they were still recovering from the shock of us moving in together (which I think just about killed my FMIL).

    I would never have been able to keep it a secret, lol. I was on the phone immediately after leaving the restaurant he proposed at. He proposed on a Wednesday night and we couldn't take the ring in to get sized until Monday night and got it back Wednesday night. It felt SO awful to not have it for those two days, lol.
