2 WEEK honeymoon?

So I was just in Vegas for 3 days and although I know partying like that wipes the crap out of us old ladies, I still felt so out of sorts when I got back - like I missed soooo much (getting caught up with chores, stuff at work, wedding planning, emails, etc).  I have never been away longer than a week before and we will be away for 2 on our honeymoon.  Did anyone go away for 2 weeks?  How did you feel when you got home?  and did you keep up with your emails and everything while you were away?  Being away for 3 days makes 2 weeks feel like it'll be a lifetime!  Although I'm super excited, I'm also nervous.

I was out of the office for 2.5 weeks and although I had about 2 hours of email catching up to do when I got back, it wasn't too bad.  Everyone knew I was out, and I had my out of office message on, so I didn't get a lot of emails that required action when I got back.  I didn't check work email or voicemails for the whole 2.5 weeks.  It was awesome, and I highly recommend taking that break.

Hotmail was a different story.  I had about 50 emails in each account after just our one week away!  I had to go grocery shopping asap when we got back, and did laundry a few days later too.  While DH sat watching tv, I was a mad woman trying to get things in order (I hate clutter and there were wedding gifts and "stuff" everywhere) but that's just me being me.

We were gone for 10 days.   By day 10 I was ready to come home...  For our anniversary trip in October we are going to be gone 12 days, and I am worried I may get homesick by the end of it too :)

Ooodsie - did you book your trip?? Where are you going?

Last time I left home for more than a week or so was when I was living in LA and went home for 2 weeks for the holidays.  I was just out of college, so when I left I unplugged and shut everything down, haha.

Yes, Oods - where are you going?!?  YAY!

We plan on going for about 3 weeks, nothing is booked yet.

I went to India for two weeks in April.  I often come "home" to PA for at least 10 days.  I'm a teacher though and I'm gone during vacation times.  I always check email and such at my parents house and was online in India as well.  We only went to Spain for 8 days, but FIL had internet there as well.

Oh, no, this isn't our Europe trip.   That we are still thinking of doing in the spring.  This is our anniversary trip to CA that we have had planned since literally last Christmas :)  Driving from San Diego to San Fran.

Nice! FI wants to do the same trip next spring, drive from LA to SF and hit Napa.  He also wants to tour Italy, take a mediterranean cruise, buy a house and have a baby.  Next year.  I haven't quite figured out the logistics yet. ;-)

DH is planning a road trip to hit every baseball park. He plans on taking three days off after his 38 day trip. He has planned it out but nothing is planned since we can't afford it and can't lose the time at work. But he is the type that needs time off before getting back to the real world. I'd rather get back in and catch up before I get any further behind.

You're not alone.  We are planning on taking 11 nights/10 days.  I'm a little nervous myself being away that long.  FI can't wait though.   Usually when we go away, it's weekend trips and they're too short.  I thought a week would be good for the HM but FI found a decent deal so we're taking advantage of it.  My aunt goes down the shore for 2 weeks every year and she says it's perfect b/c she's always ready to come home by the end of the trip.

I have to admit I'm surprised by how many of you get homesick so quickly.
May I ask what you miss or what you are nervous about?  It's a very foreign concept to me as I love to travel and move to far away places.

I would love to take a loooong honeymoon. I've never been able to take that kind of time of work though.

For me it's mostly just sleeping in my own bed (I don't sleep well on vacation in strange beds) and also I miss my pets.. :/

Me too! I had just gotten my dog maybe 3 months before we left for Slovakia... I cried a few times while we were gone because I missed him so much!

I also hate sleeping when away. The beds in Slovakia were HORRIBLE!

I love to travel as well, but we mostly visit cities like Chicago, Boston or just go down the shore.

I miss my own bed too.  I also get nervous when I'm away b/c I anticipate all the things I have to do when I get home.  I get a little OCD as far as bills and such.  I'll have to be super organized before we leave.  I know the week before, I'm going to have to do a massive cleaning job.  I worry that critters will settle in to our house when it's quiet and dark  (that's what city living does to a person).

Did the pillows suck as well B2B?  I find the pillows suck in Europe.  I import them.  The other girls on IN complain as well one of our main complaints, along with lack of screens, and washers in kitchens.

Yea!!! Like they were flat as a pancake... and the beds were HARD. Ugh. We went to a few houses when were there. But the 'home base' was his cousins, and they had this pull out type of couch bed thing. That was like sleeping on the floor.   I brought my small pillow wherever we went because i knew the pillows would suck where we went. His cousins pillows were actually half decent, compared to the bed. They were square though. Not rectangle like US pillows. That's why it is dumb when they send us duvet cover sets. And they are not soft like the ones here. I could not live in Slovakia. haha. I am a bedding snob.

As far as the screen thing goes, that is odd. I wonder why they don't use screens, I guess they like bugs? I was shocked when I seen how small the kitchen sink was. It looked like a bathroom sink! They also did not have a dish washer and the washer was in the bathroom. And the bathroom was split into to rooms. SO WEIRD! Is your bathroom like that too? Toilet (water closet) and then the tub and sink in a separate room? I didn't like that. I had to touch the door knob without washing my hands first (then everyone else before me did the same!)

No we have a regular bathroom.  Well there are two taps in the sink so you can't mix the water to make warm water or you can choose cold or hot.

No outlets in the bathroom and the light has to be outside or a string that you pull.  Weird laws.

Double sinks do not seem to exist and most Brits (Europeans) don't rinse their dishes after they wash them.  This is also a large discussion point on IN and at GTG.

I also hate duvets, how is something that just covers the bed with no one in it supposed to cover people?  Makes no sense.  Also I like layers of sheets and blankets, I make FI use them.

The UK had rectangle pillows, not the European square ones, but they still suck.

I don't understand the nervousness either!  My only nervous thought was that I hoped no one would rob our house while we were away... that's it.

Taking a vacation is like a huge "time out" for me.  I need time outs like a little kid because I get all OCD and over analyze stuff.  Its good to just shut the brain off for a little while.  That's why I can sit on a beach for hours without a book, magazine, friends or and ipod.  Just me, the sun and the water... ahhhhh.  I usually sleep terrible in beds that are not my own, but I slept like a baby on the HM.
