BB&B Vent

So FI and I only registered at BB&B because we figured we'd rather just have one registry as opposed to multiple ones since we didn't want to deal with picking and choosing which store to register for each item.

Things seemed to be going well until we realized this weekend (after several family members told us that they went to buy us things and had very little to choose from in the store) that about 75% of the items we registered for aren't normally carried in most stores.  It's frustrating as hell because it's so much more convenient for people to just go into a store, have the registry printed out at the counter, and pick something up right away as opposed to ordering online, waiting for the item to arrive, and paying for shipping.  I even stopped by customer service to ask if they provide free shipping for customers buying off a registry if they order a "delivery-only" item in a store as opposed to ordering from home and they said no.

For a store that's so well known for its event registry services, I guess I just assumed it would be more convenient and most (if not all) items would be available in the stores.  Based on what I saw in the store we went to this weekend (at least in the kitchen appliance section) and reviews of the items I saw there once I got home, it seems that they really only carry the lower-end and cheaper items... and even that's a crap shoot.

I wish I had realized all of this when we first put together our registry.  We initially scanned things in one of their larger stores and when we got home we did research to change any items that had bad reviews, never realizing that those items weren't in the store to begin with.

Ugh, sorry... just had to vent.

They do have the store lookup feature for each item, so you can look up whether or not it is carried in stores near you and decide if you still want to keep it on your registry. That's the main reason I also registered at Macy's besides BB&B - if one store carried an item in-store but the other did not, we put the item on the registry that had it in their stores. They have also been doing a lot of coupons lately via email - and they even have one out right now for free shipping. I know that doesn't help with people nt being able to just pick it up from the store, but I think they've been hearing a lot of people complain about the lack of free shipping promotions (I see it on their facebook page), and that's why they just did this recent free shipping coupon.

Yeah, I've seen the store look-up feature, but many of our guests aren't computer savvy enough to use it and, like I said, the majority of our items aren't available in stores but those are the items we want and that we requested... we don't want to compromise and ask for a $20 toaster that's going to break in a few months just because it's available in stores, you know?

I'm really beginning to think that we should have registered at Macy's, but we had heard so many horror stories about price changes on a whim and poor customer service when it comes to returns that we figured BB&B would be our best option.  I guess we may have made the wrong choice.

Well if people don't find something off the registry in the store they can always get you a giftcard or a check :)

We did BBB Macys and a Honeymoon Registry to make sure we had enough variety for everyone...

We had a BBB registry and did not have this problem and we did not register for cheap stuff.  They have plenty of great options that are sold in stores.

I registered at BBB online first and then popped into the store on a whim. This is when I found out that a lot of my items weren't in the story. Therefore, I went around the store and added/ deleted stuff so that some additional things were in the store. I am glad that I did this. Hopefully, we still get the other items because people do not mind ordering them through the website.

Honestly, the BBB in Clifton is such a disaster that in the future, I'd prefer to order online any day. I shopped for my FSIL and half of her items weren't in the store either. I managed to find three things that added up to the price range that I felt comfortable spending, so it worked out. I also shopped about a month and half before her shower, which I am glad that I did, since I had top choice.

I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. Worse comes to worse, you'll get a ton of BBB gift cards and you can just order the stuff online!

I really think it depends on the store itself.. I've been to a few BBBs where they had everything, and then others that had absolutely nothing, it is hit or miss. I've gone shopping for bridal shower gifts in the past and sometimes had great luck finding everything, other times couldn't find anything I wanted to purchase. (in a variety of locations).
There is also the option online of finding a store that has the item in stock (although the people who don't use computers wouldn't be able to do that).  While it is a little annoying to have to pay a shipping charge if they don't carry the item in that particular store, that is also up to the person buying the gift. They do have the option of asking the sales associate to locate it in another store if they don't want to pay a shipping charge. At least they can still use the 20% off coupon, so in the end, they are still saving that money, that they most likely wouldn't be able to save at other stores, like Macy's for example. If you scanned the items in one of the larger stores, then maybe suggest that store to your family members if it is close enough for them...  I wouldn't worry about it too much. And as someone else suggested, if someone is not able to find the item in the store and don't want to order it, they can still give you a gift card.

    Thanks, ladies.

When push comes to shove, it's not even a matter of being concerned about not getting gifts.  It's just my annoyance with the way the stores operate by not having a lot of things in stock in the stores.  I understand that while one store may not carry something, the next will.  However, I've checked all of the stores within a 50 mile radius of where we live and none of them carry the majority of our items and when we checked with customer service they said it was because many of our items are labeled in their system (nowhere we can see) as "Delivery Only."

Like I said, I just expected BB&B to be a little more accommodating in terms of carrying more items in-house or, at the very least, specifying which items are delivery only.  Oh, and another gripe... things get discontinued without them ever alerting registrants.  I just feel like their customer service is lacking these areas big time.

Oh well.. just something we have to deal with I guess.

I don't think you guys made a bad decision registering at BB&B- I just think there is always some level of change that happens with inventory when it comes to a registry. Just one of those things that happens!

<div>This part I have to disagree with, only because I received an email from BB&B the other day saying that the crock pot on our registry is being discontinued.  They told us that it is being discontinued and told us what it will be replaced with, gave us a link to buy it, a link to see others, and detailed instructions of how to change things on our registry online.  Maybe this isn't the norm but I just wanted to point out that it does happen.</div>

I agree with this as well. Our main problem with C&B was our guests don't normally shop there and a lot of people didn't have the store in their area. People love BB&B and using their coupons.

That's so strange!  We've had at least 5 things get discontinued and we were never alerted about it.  The only way we found out was that people told us and when we called customer service they told us those items had, indeed, been discontinued.  I remember when we first signed up for our registry we were told we would receive notification, but to this day we haven't received a single email.

It's definitely not going to my spam and I just checked to make sure they have the right email address and they do.

This is really weird.  I'm going to stop by the store sometime this week, so I think I may ask someone about it.

Side note: I hate when I type "about it" and I accidentally type "abou tit" - it happens ALL the time, haha.
