Too much of a honey moon?!

Me and my fianc have a love for the salt life and nature.. For our honey moon since we prefer to spend more on that than on our actual wedding... We want to travel to Alaska for a week then to Hawaii the next week... Is this crazy?!!

Re: Too much of a honey moon?!

  • Your travel in Alaska in Jan would be limited to good days when the major roads are open. I lived there for a long time.  I would not want to pack for both in one trip. Where do you want to go in Alaska?

Not sure what a salt life is, but how about going to Hawaii for a week, then saving Alaska for a "warmer" month.  You would save yourself the hassle of packing two completely different wardrobes and you'll still have something to look forward to when you get back from Hawaii.
  • Well around that time they have the annual dog sled races and the northern lights appear during this time.. It sounds crazy... I know... But we live in Miami.. We want snow!!! Haha.. We dOnt want to cruise it out to Alaska.. But rather stay inland and explore the inner cities and nature life..

This. Totally. If you have your heart set on being there during the winter OP, I would talk to theelusive regarding where you want to go and if roads are likely to be open.

  • I think it might makin packing a bit of a challenge to go from Alaska -30 to Hawaii 80 degrees within two weeks. I would vote for one or the other or do two seperate shorter trips.
  • Personally I think it's too much; both destinations are exciting themselves.  I'd make them two seperate trips.  If you have the money to afford both now, why not do one for HM and one for your 1 yr anniversary?

How about Iceland?  You might be able to see and do a bit more there.  Reykjavik is a nice city.  We took excursions outside of the city to see the Northern Lights, waterfalls, geysers, etc.  We also spent hours in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon as it was snowing, wind blowing and probably 25-30 degrees outside.  Loved it.
  • I did Amsterdam, a safari in South Africa, then Paris, then NYC for my HM (lived in the islands).  I didn't think it was too much.

However, I think going to Alaska in January is crazy.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I would second Iceland. A much more reasonable suggestion, although that time of year could be verrrrry cold.

If you are stuck on Alaska+Hawaii, it might make more sense to a) delay honeymoon until Alaska has a more temperate, accessible climate like in June or July or b) save one trip for your 1 year anniversary.
