New Bride-to-be!

Hello Charleston brides!  My fiance and I have been engaged for a little over a month, and are getting married in October or November of 2013!  We are both students here in Charleston, and we are planning to get married at the Citadel, where he currently goes.  And that is basically all I have planned right now!  I am narrowing down reception venues, with the Francis Marion being my top pick so far.  I am definitely open to any advice you all can give me, and I'm really looking forward to the experience of wedding planning!

<div>Hey and welcome!! I'm also a Citadel bride-to-be (although ours is not until Spring 2014). Have you nailed down the date yet? I would say work on that asap because the Citadel books super fast and the most wanted ceremony times will go quickly (since they do more than one a day). Also, don't know if you are a big football person but when I was looking at the fall, I was trying to avoid the big game weekends (USC games for a lot of our guests). Having that day and time set will help you narrow down reception venues as some may not be available on your date and others may have time restrictions and noise ordinances (I've had to ask everyone about cut off times for an evening reception). </div><div>
</div><div>All I have nailed down so far is the ceremony space and date, so I'm narrowing down reception spaces too. I'm also trying to find a space relatively close to the Citadel/downtown area but loveee venues on the water! Some of my favorites are the Rice Mill, Patriots Point and Harborside East. Don't forget to ask what is included in the rental cost (chairs, tables and linens could add up!). </div><div>
    </div><div>Feel free to message me! Congrats and enjoy this time!! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>
  • If you want the Francis Marion Hotel I would suggest to book it early. My friend wanted to get married/have her reception there and it was completely booked. She got married in May 2012 and tried to book it in April 2011.

    Good Luck with the planning!
  • Wow, thanks for all the friendly responses! :) So now we are moving the date to August, my fiance wants to be married by the time he starts law school.  Since August is not a very popular time in Charleston, I'm not having too much trouble with availability.  The Francis Marion and the Doubletree (my top reception places) are both open on the weekends we are looking at.  I haven't heard back from the Summerall Chapel on August yet, but I'm hoping they will be available too.  Thanks for all the support everyone! :)

Congratulations! I was an October 2012 bride and my recommendation is much like the ladies above. You need to narrow vendors and venue SOON. Many of the vendors I used are already booked past the end of next year! The good thing is .... it is difficult to go wrong in Charleston. :)
