Groom's Attire

What's everyones thoughts on the groom weaing a colored shirt?  My girls are wearing my fav color black(lol) so they'll match with anything.  My groom to be wants to stand out a bit from the other guys and was thinking about wearing a colored shirt.  Has anyone seen this before?  I've only ever seen white.

Re: Groom's Attire

  • personally.....i hate it. i like the colored tie and vest much better ( and i really dont even like the vest, but if i had to choose between the vest and shirt, id pick the vest). I feel like the colored shirt is like "hey i didnt have a real dress shirt, just this colored shirt i bought at express....so ill throw a suit jacket over it and voila!.  but if YOU like it, go for it!
  • I like the idea...I love color! Maybe your shoes could match his shirt color...without him knowing, that would tie you guys together.
  • I think it really depends on the color.

For us the girls are in charcoal gray dresses with black sashes & shoes and the guys are going to be in black tuxedos with charcoal vests and I think (not completely sure, can't remember lol) black shirts. The flowers will be pink and that's where the color comes in for us lol.

Thanks for all the imput. The guys are just wearing suits not tuxes and will not be wearing vests. I'm planning on finding some rocking leopard print shoes for me cause that really reflects me and adds some fun. And I think he's kinda feeling the same way, like he wants to add a little something of himself lol. Be a bit different. And I feel like I'm choosing so much for this wedding that I don't want to vito this or rain on his parade. Its his outfit and his day too. He's not talking about a crazy colour, perhaps a lilac or a light pink. We're going to have to go down to the men's store in town, I know he trusts the guys opinions there.

Thanks for looking into that for me!

  • I would wear a colored shirt over a colored vest any day; I personally think the wedding industry is solely responsible for keeping colored vests in existence.

  • LMAO VG!  I have the same opinion and would rather do the colored shirt than the vest. The whole matching vest and tie thing reminds me of prom.

I say go for the colored shirt, you've now inspired me to suggest the same to my FI, who is also doing a suit instead of a tux.

  • My FI is wearing a khaki suit (it's an August wedding) and a navy blue shirt underneath.  He was inspired when we were watching that movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall (I kid you not), and he liked a suit that Jason Segel was wearing to dinner.  Here is the screen shot picture:

I convinced him to wear khaki instead of white, since at the time I wasn't sure what shade of white my dress would be (turns out, it's ivory) and I was worried about having too much white. He bought a sharp Calvin Klein khaki suit this past summer, which he will wear with a navy blue shirt (I should add, navy blue is one of our colors, my MOH's dress is Navy, etc.) But most importantly, I want FI to be comfortable.  He's still on the fence about what tie to wear.

It's a more casual look, but our wedding is in August and we are going for a more relaxed feel. Hopefully it all pulls together and looks nice.

  • Now that you mention it, the matching vest/tie combo totally reminds me of high school graduation! Oh well, to each their own. I'm interested to see what he decides to do now. He asked if I wanted to go shopping with him next weekend so I'll post with an update if he makes a decision!
