Feeling miserable...

I was laid off from my job today. I just started this job at the end of April. My university is going through some maaaaaajor budget cuts. My boss just got her numbers for the next fiscal year and from what I understand, it wasn't pretty. The project I'm working on is already over budget and it still has another 4 years to go. All of the non-salaried employees (that's me and two others) were laid off this morning and given the option to finish up what they've been working on this week. I took the extra week of work.

FI doesn't seem to think it's that big of a deal. I have enough money to pay rent and other bills and then some on my own. And I still have another two paychecks coming, but I'm starting to feel kind of worthless and not important enough to keep around. I was laid off from a clerical job earlier this year, also for budget reasons. So I'm just feeling lousy about myself...

    OMG, I'm so sorry.  I know the feeling of rejection and it sucks.  Even though we know intellectually that it isn't personal, it's hard to keep from feeling that way.

    If you want to road trip to Portland to get your mind off things, I'm here!  My students come in July 14 so I'm pretty busy from then until the 31st, but before or after I'm wide open.

    I am so sorry to hear this! Please don't beat yourself up to bad over this. Remember, God has a plan for all of us and sometimes we have to go through some rough times before we see the sunshine. Hang in there! I will be praying for you.

    I definitely know what it feels like to face that kind of rejection, and that's exactly how I felt when I got pushed down to 50% at one school, then laid off for the next year for a tenured employee to take my position.  It's tough.  Just keep remembering that you are God's PRINCESS (so to speak) and that HE treasures you.  Let that bring you comfort while the world around you seems to be pushing you away -- somewhere the door will open!  I'll be praying for you!

    At least you get unemployment for being laid off while you look for a different job. I know how tough it is looking for a job - i've been doing it for 3 years now. Finally I moved to the city 7 hours away. 

    I've discovered that it's times like these that you grow closest to God. You are forced to depend on Him when you normally wouldn't (because you had enough money and jobs, etc.) 

    I'll keep you in my prayers.

    Actually can't. Where I'm at, you have to 680 hours before you're eligible. I just started this job at the end of April.

    I *think* I can go back to the library I was at in January. It wouldn't be full time, though, so I'm going to try to find something off campus...away from budget cuts. I don't really want to sit around and do nothing all day. We'll see...

    So sorry to hear that!! YOU ARE NOT WORTHLESS!!! Try to think of all the good things and remember that this is a part of His plan and there must be something bigger and better out there for you. hugs to you, you must be smothered with all of them tonight :)

    I'm so sorry you've gone through this twice this year. DH got laid off twice in a row the summer before our wedding and it definitely takes a toll on you emotionally. I always believe that everything happens for a reason, and when things happen like this it's to open up new doors to new possibilities. Praying for you!

    Thanks, girls.

    Today was better. FI and I got to talk about it last night and he's trying to help me stay positive. I have a tendency to sink waaaay down deep in negativity if I just give myself a little room. Thanks so much for the hugs and encouragement! <3
