Slightly inspired by a blog post and the fact that I still haven't figured out what I'm wearing for my flight Tuesday. I always dress nice (Jeans and a nice top, a dress with leggings, etc...) but what do you wear?
I usually dress nice. I like wearing jersey dresses because you can look nice and still be incredibly comfortable. I will admit though that looking nice was completely sacrificed for comfort when I flew to Europe.
If it's more than 3 or 4 hours sweats! I'll be in my little tiny seat all comfy while the beezy next to me is watching her feet swell in stillettos... go ahead and look at me like a dirty hobo, at least I'm happy
Here's part of what the blog post said and it completely sums up my attitude:
"I have a fierce love for airports. They’re magical places, yeah? Hundreds of emotions. Reunions. Goodbyes. The thrill of first times and the boredom of routine. Connections happening all around you. You can be anyone. You could meet anyone.
And there’s so much variety to satisfy my people-watching soul. I’m always interested in how people dress for the airport. Whether they realize or not, their sartorial choices are telling stories about them. I’m no world traveler (yet), but I have noticed this in my history of air travel: while there’s always a broad spectrum of dress, a large portion of the crowd will naturally sort itself into two loose style groups–working professional or sloppy traveler. Of course, it is true that airports and planes promise a much better experience if you’re prepared and comfortable. However, you can be comfortable without showing up in leggings, Ugg boots, your boyfriend’s college sweatshirt, and a tie-dyed pillow under your arm.
I’m catching a plane to Portland on Thursday morning. I know from experience that cross-country flights always feel longer than you expect, so wearing comfortable clothes usually seems like a pretty solid choice by the last half-hour. But what I also know about cross-country flights is that, eventually, you land. And then you’re somewhere awesome. Hopefully wearing something to match."
I'm with alyssa on this one! Yoga pants and a tee, and I carry a sweatshirt with me. I always take a window seat (it works, FI prefers the aisle cause he's really tall and can stretch a tiiiiiny bit more) and you can usually find me leaning against the wall of the plane with either a book (now my kindle!) or a pillow. Yes, I sometimes take a pillow ;p
the MOST dressy would be dark jeans and a nice sweater... that's if we're going to do something as soon as we land or we're meeting someone new at the airport.
For our honeymoon I plan on wearing nice (but comfortable) jeans, a tank top and a flowy shirt over it. TBH, if we were flying somewhere in the US or Caribbean I would probably just wear yoga type pants, but I want to look nice when I step off the plane in Europe. I might end up going with leggings, but I haven't worn them since I was about 7, so I don't know how to wear them/what kind of shirt to wear.
I guess I'm weird. I LOVE flying and airports and people watching. I want the other people watchers to look at me and think man, she looks nice! Now, I don't do stupid stuff like heels or tight skirt (unless maybe it was a quick flight where I was hopping off and going to lunch).
I agree about not looking like a bum. I treat the airport like any other public place. I do my normal hair and makeup routine. My dress style is normally ultra casual but I wouldn't show up in pjs and a XXXXXL hoodie, tempting as it may be.

I used to do yoga pants but they're not really me anymore. My biggest thing is like baggy, pj shirt with nasty sweats and your full sized pillow and bed head. This is public. Not your bedroom.

Me too. I wear a casual skirt and comfy but sylish flats and layer my tops so I can take them off/add them with temp changes in the plane. If it's winter I wear dark jeans and easy slip on/off knee-high boots. I I hate dressing frumpy and I agree that people can be comfy without looking like they rolled out of bed.
I also have to sit in the aisle seats so I can get up and pee as much as I want without disturbing anyone.

Ohh, good idea! I have a lot of those. I usually want a blanket on long flights, but you can't get them anymore, and I don't want to schlep one around with me! Has anyone flown first class before? I did over Christmas, and it was so nice. It was really hard to return to coach the next time around.
The last time I was on a plane, I was 12. The time before that I was 3 months old and they had to fly me out to Toronto from BC for surgery. If I did fly, I'd probably wear comfy stuff. I had a day and a half bus trip that I didn't dress comfy for, and boy did I regret it. My feet were bleeding rather spectacularly.
Rox, you'll look fabulous no matter what you wear :-)
That being said, my uniform is usually a pair of jeans (if I can get them without rivets or anything I will), a pair of flats (with those little "mini socks" that just cover the bottoms of your feet - no need to stand barefoot on the nasty floor), a nice comfy tank, and a cardigan (easy to put on/take off with someone rightthefuck next to me).
I usually also have a teeny tiny bag that I put all my jewelry in for going through the scanners and whatnot - once I'm through I'll put it back on.
This is/ was my flying shirt of 2009/ 2010.T teased me about it because I literally wore it every time I flew, with a pair of dark jeans (and black pashmina). I still love the shirt but want something different for this year!
2008 flying outfit (purple sleeveless dress, black leggings):
I flew first class once when we went on vacation over thanksgiving it was so nice! Actually, twice. LAst time, on my way back from SC last summer they moved me to first class (no idea why) and I had the whole row to myself. I can tell you after the awful problems I had that trip I definitely deserved it!
I usually just wear yoga pants and a tank. I bring a sweater along too. If we ever flew anywhere direct or less than 5 hours I'd probably care more but by the time we get wherever we are going I usually don't care what I look like anymore.
I'm usually flying for work and going right to a meeting, so I am in business attire. On long flights I go for yoga pants and a polo or something so I don't look like too much of a slob. Normal trips, I wear a nice comfy pair of khaki pants and a decent top. I get cold so I hate flying in dresses.
See, I wont fly in a dress without leggings because uh...that only gives me 1 way to sit! I need to be able to sit cross legged and with my knees tucked up. See, all my flights are always very, very long so I think I'm just used tothat. There's not much in the way of short flights when you live in Alaska. 13 hours traveling is normal for me.
I'm a sucker. I like to be comfortable. I fly in a hoodie and yoga pants all the time. If I'm flying from Fargo to anywhere warm, I will wear a cute shirt underneath, but I don't fly to look good, I fly to get to where I'm going and be as comfy as possible in the mean time.

Ditto on that cute green shirt. I still don't understand why the hell do you look cute with blonde hair and brown hair? You're not human. My face looks like a meth addict if I try to go lighter. Washes me out.
Have you all been checking out the GBCK posts today? What's going on? It's entertaining to a point, then sad, then annoying, then entertaining again.
The green shirt is BCBG. I saw it while going up the escalator and headed straight for it, tried it on, fell in love. Wellllll it was way to expensive so I pined/ and whined over it for a few days and then my mom gave me money towards it. She's awesome! I've definitely gotten my moneys worth though!

I don't understand getting dressed up for a flight unless you have to get off the plane and go to a meeting or something like that.
