Appetizers/ hors d'oeuvres Reception

What are you have for your appetizer/ hors d'oeuvres reception?
We're having a spring wedding in early afternoon and want to have the light reception with cake of course! :)
But we're having trouble thinking of what to serve.
Thanks!

Re: Appetizers/ hors d'oeuvres Reception

  • If you are doing it during a mealtime, to fill people up it would be nice to have stations. I love the pasta stations (penne with vodka sauce especially) and the beef carving station (maybe with potatoes and/or fresh rolls). The Asian wok stations are also tasty.

For hors d'oeuvres, I like stuffed mushrooms, mini crab cakes, pigs in a blanket, coconut shrimp, chicken or beef skewers (sesame chicken or teriyaki beef is good), spring rolls, scallops wrapped in bacon, hummus and pretzels, mini quiches, deviled eggs, chicken wings, shrimp.

  • We're getting married at 2 and having an hors d'oeuvres reception. We're serving:

    Butlered mini crab cakes
Butlered Virginia ham and cheese tart

    Tropical fruit display
Baked brie with raspberry sauce and toasted walnuts
    International cheese display
    Roasted vegetables
Phyllo wrapped asparagus with asiago cheese
    Teriyaki beef kabob
    Chicken Salad on soft rolls
    Pan-seared scallops with yellow-peppercorn sauce
Baby twice baked potatoes stuffed with rosemary mashed potato and served with pan gravy

There will also be an open bar. Because we're getting married in the afternoon, but having the reception through a dinner-time, we wanted people to have plenty of choices that are a bit heavier than usual, because we want people to be full!

If the ceremony starts around 2-3pm and ends by dinner time, light appetizers are fine.  Otherwise, you do need to have the equivalent of a full meal.

For a lunchtime cocktail reception, we're having:

Spinach and artichoke dip with veggies
    Fruit display
    Cheese display
    A salmon mousse
Flank steak with gorgonzola on a crostini
    Shrimp cocktail
    Chicken skewers
Stuffed mushrooms with spinach and cheese
    Crab balls
    Chicken salad mini sandwiches
Ham and honey mustard mini sandwiches
    Caesar salad
    A room temperature pasta dish
    Bruschetta
  • um, now i am hungry!

i like crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, skewered chicken...
  • We are having a very early afternoon reception. The menu is:

    Garden vegetable paradise
    Fruit display
    2 types of chicken wings
    Brushetta
    Chinese egg rolls
    BBq and Swedish meatballs

No liquor bar but we will have an open soda and juice bar. Sparkling cider for the toast
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image

Good, I hope it goes over well with our guests, then!  I've seen so many people say they barely got a bite to eat at their wedding and I'm determined not to let that happen to me.
  • Here's what we're getting from the caterer:

    Teriyaki chicken kabobs
    Crab stuffed mushroom caps
    Tritip sliders
    Caprese kabobs
    Fruit platter

I'm also doing a DIY dessert bar.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • We're probably going to have butlered bacon wrapped scallops, ham on sweet potato biscuits, and sweet and sour meatballs.  We also will either have a meditteraniean display or fruit, veggie, and cheese display.  Then we're having a buffet dinner.
